How would you expresss too hot/long/short etc in Thai?

Use เกิน after I believe.

ร้อนเกิน - too hot

สั้นเกิน - too short

ยาวเกิน - too long

Or use มากไป in place of เกิน

And another is มากเกินไป in place of เกิน

Adding to Tywais' explanation, all of the following options are used:

adj + มากเกินไป

adj + เกินไป

adj + เกิน

adj + ไป

also

adj + เหลือเกิน (slightly stronger than just 'too')

Meadish, เหลือเกิน means 'very X', rather than 'too X'. Think of น่ารักเหลือเกิน, ดีเหลือเกิน, etc.

As I understand it, เหลือ means excess and เกิน means too much. So, เหลือเกิน would be appropriate as well in this situation, as in ' the excess is too much'. Or in the case of food, 'everything in excess of what I ate was too much'.

Could it be the difference between 'too', 'very' and 'so' is not very obvious for this word, and this might be the reason why many Thais will say things like 'I miss you too much' instead of 'I miss you so much' in English?

Googling a little I found:

ตัดข้อความออกไปมากเหลือเกิน [pronoun] erased too many messages (could also be interpreted as 'erased so many messages' or 'erased a lot of messages' of course)

Okay, I have an example sentence (from เธียรชัย เอี่ยมวรเมธ bi-language definitions dictionary):

เหลือเกิน

1. เกินไป carry too far : เราวิจารณ์เขาได้แต่จะให้เหลือเกินไม่ได้

2. อย่างยิ่ง extremely; exceedingly; most; terribly : อันตรายเหลือเกิน/ร่ำรวยเหลือเกิน

Interestingly, in example 1, เหลือเกิน is being used like 'to excess', which fits well with เกินควร but is still a little different than 'too X'. Adverb vs. modifier of adjective? Grammarians, help me here please.

Seems that there are other variants on the use of "เหลือ" as well. From So Sethaputra:

เรื่องของเขาเหลือเชี่อ – His story is beyond belief.

นางสวยเหลืออด – She is exceedingly beautiful. [Her beauty is more than I can bear.]

เขาโง่อย่างเหลือแสน – He was exceedingly stupid.

เราได้รับความลำบากอย่างเหลือเข็ญ – We suffered untold hardships.
