Hello,

So glad i found this forum could i ask a question if possible as i have tried calling the embassy and get no response,

My wife is in England on a 2 year set visa we are planning to do a visa for her son in Thailand my wife has been told (by a friend) that we need a letter of guarantee or something from the embassy in london as we will not be traveling to thailand to do the visa ourselves we plan to send all the docs to her mum who will take my wifes son to submit the visa application.

She has a letter from the umper in thailand confirming she has sole custody but my wife has been told she will need a letter from the embassy in london to confim she has sole custody or something like that because we will not be submitting the application or taking her son to any interview if needed.

Can anyone clarify if this is needed and what exactly it is? i have spoken to the thai embassy who know nothing of this and can't get hold of the visa application centre in thailand i have also emailed them with no response.

Any clarification on what exactly would be needed for this type of application would be much appreciated.

Your friend is wrong.

Click here for a document checklist.

As Mariner says, having sole custody is not enough, your wife must also show that she has been exercising sole responsibility.

As well as the link provided by Mariner, you may also find Chapter 14 - Settlement entry for children helpful; especially Para 14.5 Sole Responsibility.
