I got mine at Makro in Bangkok for 6000,- Baht.

It has three Burners on top for cooking.

I removed the lower metal sheet that covered the oven's burner

and replaced it with to slabs of granite. I bake pizza and

bread directly on the stone.

That's the same oven that I have....in fact, my 2nd one as the first rusted out. Not the best quality.....no thermostat and bad insulation, but cheap and does the trick for home baking needs.

Just wondering KN...... the granite slab you installed doesn't crack?? and how long have you used it??

The granite doesn't crack if you don't move it violently while hot.

You would need a gas welder in order two cause real damage.

From what I found on the net you need to get it to 400 degrees C

in order to crack it.

I have used it many times in one year to make bread and pizza.

Pizza comes out really nice if you preheat the granite for half an

hour. There is better material than granite for this, but granite is

very easy to obtain in Bangkok and gives good results too.

The stove is exactly the same design as the old ones you find

all over north west Europe, but as you say the quality is not the same.

The ones in Europe last easily 30 years, while this one shows signs

of usage after one year.

You can find stand alone gas ovens in china town. The area near Pahurat

and Sampeng market. There you find different kind of machinery including

those stand alone gas ovens and big down kneaders.

Happy Baking!

Since I am recent on this subject - I went to Macro in Naratiwas Rd and though wanting a Gas oven, I got a great electric unit, that is commercial grade. It will go to 300 degree which is great for Pizza. The issue is that there is a fuse holder that breaks the circuit after overheating. I got the local electrical guy to change the fuse holder and the oven will stay at 300 + all day.

Originally, I wanter electric, however, the salesman told my tee-ruk that you cannot cook a chicken in a gas oven and they are prone to exploding. I dod not believe him, but did not want to argue the point. We went to the market in Kab Choeng to get some of the really delicious chicken and duck and tee-ruk was shocked to see this wonderful food was cooked in gas. I just decided to gently smile at the situation.

Back to the electric, yes up-turned granite bench top is excellent, but make sure there is plenty of flour to cook the pizza on - otherwise enjoy.
