Doube Entry Visa - I'm So Confused

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me if i have this down correctly?

I arrived on April 2nd and i have a 30 day tourist visa. ThaiVisaRun tells me that I can pay them and go to Laos and get a double entry visa that will give me a total of 60 days in the Kingdom. But, after the first 30 days I have to go to Immigration to get a stamp. Then after the next 30 days I have to leave the country again and get a stamp for 30 days then i have to visit immigration again 30 days later for one last 30 day stamp. Is this correct?

Also, if i go to Laos before my first 30 day tourist visa is up, do they tack the new 30 days on to the end of that or does that 30 days start when i get the new double entry visa?

So confusing...

Thanks to all who help...

Guy

A double-entry Tourist Visa allows you a 60 day entry which can be extended at immigration for 30 days (60+30=90 days), then a trip to the border for your second entry of 60 days which can also be extended by immigration for another 30 days (a second 60+30=90 days). The maximum stay in Thailand can be 180 days, each 30 day extension by immigration costs 1,900 Baht.

When you exit the country and go to Laos, upon re-entering Thailand your permission to stay time starts all over again. With a valid Tourist Visa you would be given a 60 day entry stamp at the border.

You are from country that gets 30 days on a tourist visa entry? You are here on a visa you obtain from a Consulate? The problem is that people also call 30 day visa exempt entry a visa sometimes so need to be sure.

You do not need to pay a visa service. Until June 4 tourist visas are free and Vientiane will provide a two entry without charge. You apply in morning and pick up next afternoon. Next week they will be on holiday first three days. With that visa you obtain a 60 or 30 day entry and can extend at a cost of 1,900 baht for another 30 days - exit before visa expires and do a second time.

Thank you so much!!!

Now that makes sense. So, effectively i can stay here 6 months. OK, what about doing a 3rd try in Laos? Is that possible or not?

Yes. What is your Nationality and what do you have now?

Most Nationalities can get a double Entry Tourist Visa as said. This gives almost 6 months stay. With extensions and a Border Run.

That is not a Tourist Visa. It is a Visa Exempt Entry Stamp.

Actually you did not obtain a tourist visa. You go a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

So you are authorized a 60 day stay on any tourist visa entry and a two entry can be extended to cover almost six months as you mentioned - just be aware the expiration date of visa will be 90 days from day of issue at Vientiane so you have to make second entry before it expires.

There is currently no limit on visa or visa exempt entry in the local area.

Yes, you have to pay careful attention to the following dates:

1. Visa expiration date, usually 90 days from date visa issued. You must make second entry before visa expires.

2. Permission to stay date, date that is stamped in your passport at the border or by immigration. Don't overstay this date!

Ok, i think i understand this all now. Last question is that I still have to go to immigration after the first 60 days to get a 30 day stamp and same for the second entry as well right?

If you want the 30 days - you do not have to extend your stay.

What do you mean? I can stay the 90 without going to immigration?

No that is not what I mean and no you can not extend your stay to 90 days without a visit to immigration and payment - you asked if you had to go to immigration to get a 30 day stamp after 60 days and my answer was no you do not have to take advantage of the extra 30 days for 1,900 baht option. You can exit and return for another 60 day free stay if you prefer.
