if traveling o Lao for a short visit 4-5 days what type of visa will i require, and is it better to get one before hand

or at the boarder.

No kip, I believe.

Baht 1,500 or U.S. $35.

If you do go down to the Lao Embassy in Bangkok, and assuming that a taxi driver can find it hidden away a bit as it is, the visa will be baht 1,400 while you wait for it, 30 min to an hour.
