Ever since i upgraded my 2Mb goldcyber to 3Mb platinumcyber the connection get lost about 3 times a day. In the Xavi setup screen it is then displayed:

Default Gateway not currently set

Primary DNS Server not currently set

Secondary DNS Server not currently set

Everything else seems connected, the line speed is from 2300 until 3022 Kb/sec

So I have to restart the modem every time. The phoneline seems to be ok (no cracking or hum)

Sometimes the modem magically repairs the connection by itself.

Does anynone has any idea how to overcome this problem? (apart from calling TOT)

What is your line attenuation and signal to noise ratio?

From those numbers I can tell you is your line is the problem or not, either to far from exchange (high line attenuation figures) or poor quality (low SNR margin).

If you modems sync speeds aren't constant there is usually a problem. The modem will try to sync as fast as the line and service will allow.

For example if you pay for 4meg you could potentialy sync at 4096kbps but if the line quality doesn't support the modem will try and re-sync and then next highest speed it can maintain a connection. Maybe 3072 for example.

Here my modems details for reference, it has good consistent connection with zero restarts etc (obviuously unless TOT is completely down)

Type Interleave Path

Status SHOWTIME

Downstream & Upstream

Data rate(Kbps)

4096Kb and 506Kb

Noise Margin

34 and 29

Output power(dBm)

124 and 62

Attenuation(dB)

11 and 3

Here's my advise: use Open DNS!

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

O looked in the manual for "open DNS" but it is not mentioned

What is Open DNS?

The xavi has the following menu tree:

Quick Setup

Local Network

Internet

Security

Advanced Security

IP Routing

Dns Client

IGMP Proxy

Dns Relay

SNTP

Quality of Service

DSL Home

Where should i look?

thanks!

Webfact, if the TOT DNS servers are down or have a configuration problem, Open DNS doesn't help.

What I am really interested in, did downloads speed up after the upgrade?

BTW Is it me or is surfing on TOT so slow the last 3 days? And indeed it seems connections are dropping more often than usual. A simple reconnect through the browser interface suffices.

Here in Koh Samui surfing with TOT is just normal to good the last days. Except the Hang-ups . Thais sites are fast.

I'm living in Thailand for one year with a host family, and this topic was the only one that was related to my question.

Seeing as I can't contact anybody from TOT because I don't understand Thai, could somebody tell me what the TOT nttp server is? It would help a lot.

Thanks.

And I've noticed the same problem here in Isaan, sometimes restarting the router is the only way to get it to come back online, but other times even that doesn't help and I just have to wait 6-12 hours. :o
