I'm leaving the country for Songkran on Saturday and was planning to process my re-entry permit tomorrow. My work permit was finalised today, so I have had to leave it until the last minute. Given that government offices will probably closed, and assuming the airports no longer do the re-entry permits, does anyone know what the alternatives are?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Cheers Allan, I'll give the airport a try tomorrow.

I've just spoken to the immigration helpline 1111. The guy repeatedly told me that immigration will be closed until the 16th but to be fair, I think he knew just as much as the rest of us. Their website says that it was supposed to be open on Saturday 11th, 0800 - 1200 (re-entry window 7 only). But since the announcement, who knows?

They might be open tomorrow, at least in the morning, to give people a chance. Go there early and try.

They make up these rules without thinking about their implications. Thailand has more off days than any other country in the world. How many of those days result in immigration offices closing?

This rule needs to be changed. Reentry permits should be readily available at any immigration checkpoint, especially the international airport.

You should not have to convince them that it is an emergency in order to get a reentry permit.

And, no, the rule change has nothing to do with security. After you have a visa or extension, the security checks have already been done before you ask for a permit of any sort.

That is why they stamp your passport: Under consideration........maybe they just don't understand what they are doing. It certainly seems that way.

Don't know what they are doing? In Thailand? Noooooo...... can't be possible :o

I have a similar problem. I live in Hua Hin and was planning to obtain a reentry permit today for my flight on the 15th.

The office is closed today. I have telephoned the helpline ( 1111 ) and was told to try the immigration in Bangkok by telephoning them at 8-30 am tommorow ( he said he was not sure if they will be open ) and asking them if they can make the permit. The only problem with this is that by the time I have checked and assuming they can do the permit I will have to drive to Bankok and they close at 12 noon. Any Ideas ?

I've just spoken to people at the airport, government contact centre and immigration and the general consensus seems to be that nobody knows what's happening though immigration may be open tomorrow for those who apply by email. Then again, it might not. Hope this helps.

Don't think there is any such thing as a Re-entry Permit outside the country.

Infact it's becoming more and more a very special beast even within the country!

Hey guys - you are in Thailand, still a third world country, where anything can happen, and often does.

Don't ever leave anything to the last moment, especially when it affects your legal status here and/or your ability to leave.

Even if there had not been an unexpected holiday today, you may well have been unable to get to immigration due to protests and road blocks.

Let this be a lesson - get your shit sorted well in advance of the due date.

I went to Suan Plu immigration this morning after submitting my documents through their website. (Did it about 1230 last night). It's all sorted now and it should be open tomorrow. I had been told that it wasn't going to be open until 16th but decided to check it out myself. I would recommend doing it through email as it looked very busy when I left.

Thanks for all the help,

Paul
