I have bought a leonics OA extra 1500 it is 1500va 900w.

I have hooked it up to my computer and 2 22 inch lcd monitors. The moment i pull out the powercord that connect the UPS with a wall socket the computer and monitors both have no power. Am i doing something wrong ? does a UPS not work when you take the powercord out of the wall socket. I did this to test it i wanted to know if it worked.

I have charged the thing for over 12 hours now and (bought it yesterday). It was not a cheap no brand thing it cost me 8500 baht (i thought to buy an expensive one to be sure it worked).

Mine works fine when I do exactly that, though it did stop doing that when the battery went dud and needed to be replaced.

A return to the shop might be in order.

Try it with a light first.

Some low end UPSs (not that leonics is exactly low-end) don't like the active power-factor correction that high end PSUs use so that could be a factor.

Also, ensure you are plugging into the maintained output of the UPS, many have a regulated but not maintained output for your printer.

Failing the above, off back to the shop with it :o

Try to first: without anything connected to the UPS, switch on the UPS and after that disconnect the UPS from power source.

If the UPS is starting with short beep's than is a problem with the UPS, maybe the battery inside is bad or something els. If the beeps coming in periods of 10 sec or longer that it should be ok. In that case, without to connect the UPS to the power source, connect a Lamp to the UPS to see the UPS switches off.

If he does than it looks like a problem with the electronic of the UPS!

Anyway, I would bring the UPS back to the Seller and let them check and change to a new one if the UPS fails. And if they didn't have the same model, I would ask for the return of the money. Who knows maybe they had know already about the problem?!

I had some time ago some experiences with an Dealer about an UPS (not a Leonics) which had a bad electronic and I had to ask for the return of the money, which I was getting. About 5 minutes later, I still was standing outsite of the shop, they sold that UPS to an other customer, even for an higher price. That was on Pantip Plaza!

Cheers.

Well my 2 yo UPS is only a 850va unit but still holds my desktop PC up for 12 to 15 minutes with no mains power. The PC has a 650 watt power supply but doesn't draw anywhere near that and 1 x 19" LCD Monitor.

My guess is there is definitely something wrong - battery - I agree, return to vendor.

Did you switch it on?

:o

But: as the OP wrote he was disconnecting the UPS from power source and the computer went off at the same moment! So, seems to be the UPS was switched ON!

Anyway, sometimes we really forget the "nearest"!

Cheers.

It was switched on lights were burning ect.

I have tried it again and now only with the computer it can power the computer on for a relatively short time 10-15 sec but if i connect the monitors too it doesnt work. I am trying to recharge the battery now i have disconnected everything and connected the UPS to a wall soccet and my computer and monitor to other sockets.

Maybe it was wrong of me to charge it with the computer and monitors on it ?. If it wont work tomorrow im going to bring it back after Songkran.

The UPS is giving beeps.. not like every second more like every 9 seconds (counted fast).

Sounds like you have your monitors plugged into the 'straight' through plugs rather than the battery backed up ones. Try changing the monitor's plug into the outlet on the UPS.

Thanks but that wasnt the problem i have 6 ports that are protected only 1 that is not. For now it looks like the battery just cant support two monitors and a computer. So it is either bad or not fully charged. I mean the thing is 1500 by 900 watt that should easily support my pc and 2 22 inch lcd monitors.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Is the 9 second beeping all the time, even when plugged into mains? Sometimes there's a switch that needs to be flipped for the UPS to work properly.

Very likely bad battery! Was the box new and closed when you bought it?

When i bought it yesterday at IT square in pantip ngam wong wan it was sealed. They opened it for me so i could inspect it . I bought at IT square because i thought they would be less likely to sell something that does not work. If its a bad battery i will go back after song kran.

According to the selftest of the UPS the battery has enough power.

I might be trying to get too much power of the ups because now it seems to work with only my computer hooked up. I cant inmagine my two monitors + my computer are using more then 900watt. I mean just a normal pc amd 2 3200 + 3 harddisks and 3 cd rom players and 2 22 inch lcd monitors.

- samung syncmaster 226wb 55 watt according to the manual

- HP w2408h 130 watt according to the manual

- that leaves 900 - 130 -55 = 715 watt for the computer (i believe it has a 450 w power supply)

I think this 900 watt from a UPS is a bit fantasy. Imagine, that is 70 Amps at 12 V. And that from such a small battery. My guess is that above 20 amps the voltage start to drop considerably. 300 W would be more realistic and only for a short time.

You got already 240W as mentioned above. Don't forget these 3 harddrives + 3 CDROMS. Maybe you just draw too much power.

Hi.

I was having an identical problem, which had me sit on two brand new UPS's which the shop wouldn't take back as they worked flawlessly - however my computer's power supply wouldn't work with them! It was an Enermax 450 Watts, which for some reason absolutely didn't like the type of AC the UPS gave out the moment it switched from line to battery.

When i pulled the plug the computer/monitor/modem etc (all connected to the UPS) were off immediately, no beeps from the UPS. HOWEVER switching the UPS OFF then ON again (power still unplugged!) it came on and i could boot the computer! With another computer or other devices such as a fan or a lamp both UPS's worked just fine.

In the end i had to go for an entirely different type of UPS (a Leonics which cost three times as much as the two others) which could handle the problem by being constantly on battery while the AC (line) only charges said battery, there is no "switchover" when the line goes out.

Best regards....

You really only expect 300W from a 900W UPS? These things must be super cheap. APC's I've used had no problem providing the advertised power draw, though for a very short period of time as can be expected.

The computer mentioned is probably not drawing much more than 150W - 200W at idle, which should bring the total draw in under 400W. The batteries should last over 20 minutes, if it's not complete crap and doesn't overheat first.

The UPS has 2 batteries not 1. Its a fairly expensive one leonics 8500 baht. OAextra 1500.

After trying a few things it finaly works.

It would be useful to others to know what the 'few things' were that persuaded it to start functioning correctly :o

To be honest i was just trying new things. When i first tried using it i had all my monitors and my computer connected to it and it did not work. After that i first connected the computer tried it.. it worked. Then i tried it with 1 monitor and the computer.. then 2 monitors and the computer.. then i added the power supply to the router and it still worked.

Why on earth it did not work at first i don't know. According to the tests it was already at full power when i first connected it.
