Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what's going on right now with the Thai visa situation. My father read in a newspaper that in order to combat bad economic times, Thailand would be looking to revise their visa laws a bit (though I'm not sure where the source of this is, sorry!). That said, I am from the US, 22 years old, traveling with my mother who is also from the US but is 59 years old, and I thought our visa was for 90 days and not 30. My return trip is outside of the 30 day window from the time that I arrived so I'm wondering if my dad just read wrong or if there's anything I need to do in order to stay until my return date.

Any and all help is appreciated, I can give further details if you'd like. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

It all depends.

Do you have a visa or are you planning to enter using 30 days entry stamp from the border.

If latter you might be asked to provide return flight out from thailand.

Edit: have not seen any changes in visa rules, duration of stay etc etc so it propably is as your dad told you. Just newspaper article speculating if thai government will ease up visa rules to support tourism industry.

If you procured a Tourist visa foam an embassy or consulate in the US, you can stay here for 90 days in a row.

If you do not have any form of Thai visa in your passport and plan to arrive here on a 30 day stamp, you need to produce a return ticket to the US. Obviously this only lasts 30 days in a row.

Can the 30 days arrival stamp be extended at Suan Phlu, anyone?

The only change, aka easing, I am aware of is that tourist visas are now free issued bfore 4th June. TV's are valid 60 days and can be extended for a fee by 30 so that might give you the 90 you are thinking about. Assuming you have a visa issued by a Thai Embassy or Consulate in the USA. If not you'll get 30 days exemption stamp on arrival extendable by 7 maximum.

You are now in Thailand. If it was on a 30 day entry stamp the best extension you can hope for from Immigration is 7 days if you have a ticket out of the country within those 7 days.

A trip to the border and return by land will get a 15 day entry stamp. Return by air and get 30 days.

Go to a neighbouring Thai Consulate and you can apply for a free Tourist Visa giving 60 days and can be extened at Imigration for a further 30.

Mr Abhisit said the ministry was also required to evaluate the progress of previous measures, including three-month visa fee waivers, landing fee cuts and property tax waivers for hotel operators implemented in March.
