April 17, 200917 yr Anyone know of a good barbers?? One that may speak a little english, isnt a rip off, cuts hair well and not a salon?? There are 4 barbers all next to each other on Suthep Rd between Nimmanhaemin and Sirimankalajarn, across from the hospital. Heading east, towards the city, with the barbers on the right, I prefer the first one. None of them speak much English but hand signals work fine. They all charge about 80 baht for a basic haircut.
April 18, 200917 yr Anyone know of a good barbers?? One that may speak a little english, isnt a rip off, cuts hair well and not a salon??Cheers :"-) There is a small "traditional" barber shop on Rakaeng Rd west of Changklan Rd, about 100m before Pracha Samphan Rd on the right side going from Changklan Rd. Very little if any English but I am successful in getting my hair cut there and I do not speak Thai. Basic haircut - 50 bht.

I recommend here as well. The last one has an all-female staff. I like my ears cleaned as well and the female barbers are far more gentle than the men. The 80 baht usually includes a full-face shave, if requested, as well - ears, nose, forehead the works. Edited April 18, 200917 yr by Loaded
April 18, 200917 yr Theres a very good efficient lady barber, shop name Pornwilai, in town on the Soi where the entrance to the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel is. 100 Baht, speaks English, good haircut and used by many Foreigners but never crowded. Shes in a new complex standing back a bit, and even has a parking area off the street. Highly recommended. I ve been going there for 3 years and get the same quality cut for 2 Pounds that I used to pay 20 Pounds for at a Birmingham City Centre salon!!!

I ve been going there for 3 years and get the same quality cut for 2 Pounds that I used to pay 20 Pounds for at a Birmingham City Centre salon!!! Sounds good, I'll give her a try, especially due to the easy parking. That's the headache at my long term favourite place, Nina's, on Moon Muang Rd just after Rachamanka Rd comes in on your left. Motorcycles are OK, but it's difficult for cars, made more so by the selfish morons who own the open front Thai restaurant next door, and think they also own the road. Nina herself is charming and charges 120b for a Very good shampoo and cut. If possible, try to choose the slimmer prettier shampoo person, as she gives an excellent, strong head massage along with the shampoo, if you like that sort of thing. English is not good here, but hand signals work. If Nina doesn't understand what you need, she just gives you the comb so you can show her your usual style. Two words of warning from my long experience with hairdressers in Thailand: 1. To indicate whether you want a lot cut off, or a lot left on, is very tricky. We nid-noy Thai speakers take a hand written note in Thai to ensure we get what we want. 2. Beardies!! Something about Thai culture makes every hairdresser want to shave you bare where your sideboards meet your beard. If your Thai isn't up to it, take another note to tell them to leave those 2 patches alone!
April 19, 200917 yr I used to use the guy at Santitam traffic circle, next to the police station. 50 baht
April 19, 200917 yr Did you know that wednesday is the national day off for barbers (not beauty salons)? True. So don't try and get a cut on a wednesday. Cheers, Pikey.

(Suthep Rd not good fr that usually.)
April 20, 200917 yr Did you know that wednesday is the national day off for barbers (not beauty salons)? True. So don't try and get a cut on a wednesday. Yes I did know that, but fortunately not many people care, including barbers who are mostly open as usual.
April 20, 200917 yr Did you know that wednesday is the national day off for barbers (not beauty salons)? True. So don't try and get a cut on a wednesday.Cheers, Pikey. That's not strictly correct. It is considered to be unlucky to have your hair cut (or to cut hair) on a Wednesday hence the fact that many of the traditional barbers are shut on a Wednesday Edited April 20, 200917 yr by john b good

Her shop is next to the Hash Pub opposite Mai Ping Hotel, there is parking right outside the shop or under the shady trees.
