Hi,

Does a Thai national have to purchase travel insurance in advance of applying for a UK visit visa and show the receipt to the embassy?

I have heard that Thais have to have comprehensive travel/health insurance when they visit the UK... but is this enforced by the embassy before the visa is granted, or is it enforced later at the airport (or not enforced at all?)? We would obviously prefer to pay for insurance after the visa is granted in case there are any problems with the application or the planned flight dates.

Thanks in advance :o .

You don't need to provide proof to UK Visas, unlike for a Schengen Visa where it is a prerequisite.

You really need to have insurance if the trip goes ahead so it wouldn't hurt to include it in the pack, but of course it would be wasted if the visa was to be refused.

Are you thinking medical here If so you won't need Insurance to get treatment in the UK

That is why you pay the high price for the Visa.

The National Health Service is funded By National insurance Contributions.

You are paying for this with your Visa Fee. Unlike The rest of Europe.

Unlike Other forms of Insurance if Refused for any reason You wont get your money back.

I am sorry but that's completely untrue, a tourist to the UK is not entitled to NHS treatment, though whether you would be refused treatment in an emergency is debatable but you would probably be billed.

The visa fee is a fee for processing the application and nothing more.

Wrong. This person is talking about a visit visa. They cost about 3500 baht. Anyone entering the UK on a visit visa should have travel insurance as they are not entitled to get treatment on the NHS.

OP, get some insurance when you get the visa. It is not a requirement of the application process.
