My Thai partners son has just drawn the red ball and is off to the army for two(?) years at the end of the month.

He thinks he can walk away from his debts because he is in the army (he has a loan on a motor bike which has two years to run).

Just to give me some ammunition should the subject of the outstanding debt ever come my way, what does a basic squaddie in the Thai Army earn each month (Take home)?

I have also heard that the army hold back half the pay and give it to you when you finish your service,is this correct?

Any information as doing a google search is not much luck.

ps as another information on army service such as do they have to pay for transport from base to home when they are on leave etc

Thanks

A conscript starts on about 2000 Baht a month. Washing powder, toiletteries etc. are not provided. After basic training, I belive the salary is raised to a whopping 4000 Baht.
