I'm moving to a new condo in town (Chongnongsi) and need to get an ADSL connection. Reading the forum, I am at a total loss as to what company I should subscribe to. Who is the least worst? Are there any companies that I should absolutely avoid? My impression from the forum posts is:

TOT: I've seen nothing but complaints for the past few months, including suggestions that their gateway is overloaded (Reimar?) and that their routers are overstretched too (Prasert?).

True: Most reports are negative. However a few people have reported good speed (I know one person that gets 4MB out of an 8MB package).

CSLoxinfo: Not as many comments available on this company, but they seem more positive than the others. More expensive too.

I guess a good starting point is whether or not a company's international gateways are toast. Because if they are, then it doesn't really matter how good the rest of their infrastructure is. Anyone got good information on that?

CSloxinfo. Been with them for over 10 years. Have good and bad to report, mostly good. NEVER faced that trouble TOT or TRUE users seem to face on a hourly basis.

Spot on!

Living on the outer skirts of Bangkok, TRUE was not available in my area. With all the negative feedback TOT was getting, I did some digging around before deciding to go with ji-net (jasmine internet). I've been using their 2048/512 package for over a year, never had any issues. Great speeds, both local and international 24/7. Customer service is also very good.

Well, I finally got CSLoxinfo connected on a 3MB package at lunch time today. My first few speed tests (speedtest.thaivisa.com) were pretty horrible - 350KB. Tonight it is much better - consistently getting 2.3MB download speed (upload is not so great at about 250KB).

So long as the download speed stays > 1MB I'm happy :)

Next time, include CAT in your considerations.

But then again, internet in Bangkok is generally better and cheaper than in the rest of Thailand. In the end, it seems luck is involved as well.

Over the last few month, CAT has been faster on Koh Tao than on Koh Samui. The reason? CAT doesn't even know.

The last three weeks, CAT has been faster on Samui. The reason is that there's no government electricity on Koh Tao anymore.

When i lived just down the road from Chong Nonsi i used True - i never had a problem with it in the 12 months i used it :)

I switched from a 1MB 600 Bhat something from True to CS Loxinfo last month.

CS Loxinfo offered a pormotion 890 Baht for 2 MB. Technical support is very good. When my router got struck by lighting a few days ago, they invited me in and replaced it with a new one for FREE. Unfortunately the speed has only improved around 10% with CS.

True was alright too for 1MB - techninal support also never had a problem with. Used them for 5 years but have no real problems to report from either except from, the at times, the very SLOW speeds. And a few months back for a week or so True had problems and many websites couldn't open. But then again it wasn't their fault I was told. Some cable had snapped between Taiwan and Thailand. Go figure.

To be honest, you can't expect super high speeds from either when you're only paying for 1MB or even 2MB speeds. But then again I am not a complainer. I accept the fact that this is Thailand and sometimes the speeds are not what you have paid for.

And the weird thing is that speeds are so unpredictable here. One min great speeds the next unbelievable slow speeds -TIT.

Unlike others, I don't pay for expensive packages because I know that I will probably get frustrated if say I was spenidng 2000 Baht something for 8MB speeds and get slow speeds instead.

1MB with True was alright. Now with CS Lox with 2MB I am happy too.

CS Loxinfo have moved into new offices in the Cyberworld building opposite Robinson's Rachada. I think they genuinly try their best under the circumstances here in Thailand.

I still use True tel line as I was told TOT line wasn't great.

So, to answer your quesstion, both companies are alright as long as your expectations aren't too high.

I wonder if this is a result of the daytime throttling that some users complain about on CSloxinfo Home Packages during the day. That does not occur on the SME packages they sell.
