osmar
The only real way is to go to a language school and then you need to go out there and practice, practice, practice. Many language schools here are only a few years old and run by opportunists out to make a quick "buck". One of the longest running and possibly the most reputable is Patong Language School which is Thai owned and has been in buisnes for over twenty years. Forget the packs of cd's; teach yourself books!!

LivinginKata
There is a lady called Joy who advertises in the Gazette. One on one. #Excellent. That's not such a bad idea, but I can't find this Joy ... Goto http://www.phuketgazette.net/classifieds/ and click on personal services and do a serch over the past 45 days. I found a few ads offering Thai lessons.
Kimera
Thanks for the input, still not sure ! I feel a school would be the best for me , maybe part time but the thought of journeys over the hill to Patong, may not live long enough to speak Thia.
