I want my gf to stopover in the UK (London) or Australia (Sydney) on her way to Canada to visit me. I want her to eventually get visa for the US, so the more countries she stops over in the better... is it economical to do a stop over in either of those countries?

I do not understand why you think that multiple stop overs in the UK or Australia will help with the U.S. Visa and I'll leave that discussion to the visa threads.

On the pricing, unless you have a few thousand $CAD or plan on buying her an RTW fare, forget about it. The cheapest routing to Canada is still the China Airlines BKK-TPE-YVR routing with a transfer to WestJet for the domestic route.

If she is going east, then the cheapest routing may also be the usual star alliance flights via Japan, usually ANA to AC for BKK-NRT-YYZ.

I have done this routing several times in the past year but more often than not with EVA because I am in premium laurel. The old routings via LAXor SFO are now more expensive due to FX. 2 years ago I only flew out of LAX.

Be aware that the possible bankruptcy reorginaztion of AC and labour negotiations this summer are going to do a number on routings, so keep that in mind. I'd stick with West Jet if only because of the new customer service guarantees that are in force including rerouting, meal vouchers and hotels in the event of delays. It's stuff AC won't do and that comes in handy for a gal traveling a long way from LOS.
