I note on the schedule of visa charges on the UK visa website that:

i. Family visitors are charged 3484 baht; but

ii. EEA national's family members are "free of charge".

The form for EEA family members lists eligible countries. UK is not mentioned, despite the fact that it is in the EEA (EU plus a few other countries). Thus it looks like spouses of British nationals are required to pay the fee of 3,484, whereas, for example, the spouse of a Hungarian national is not required to pay a visa fee if that Hungarian national is in the UK or intending to travel to the UK. Sounds pretty weird.

Is this a correct interpretation? The website www.vfs-uk-th.com/visafees.aspx is not clear on this issue.

Broadly, you can't exercise EEA treaty rights in your own country. There is an exception in that if you spent time in another EEA country exercising such rights then these could be exercised upon your return to your home country in relation to a non EEA spouse.
