Trivia: Nana And Emile Zola

Featured Replies

Anyone know if there is any connection between the French writer Emile Zola's novel Nana about a courtesan named Nana in 1800's France ......

and the naming of Soi Nana, Nana Plaza, etc.

Since the novel is about a courtesan, France dominated IndoChina and Thailand in the 1800's, and Nana is a red light district, it seems logical to me that the area may have been named after the character in the novel, Nana.

Anyone have any information or references concerning the origin of the name Nana in LOS ??

Thanks

I believe it is the name of a Siek Indian family that came to settle in Bangkok years and years ago. I could be wrong.

the straight translation of nana is , i believe , "various" or "a variety of" , it is an adjective and preceeds a noun to denote plurality and variety.

Was told the same. Owned part of Sukhumvit.

Isn't NEP owned by a group of Thai Siek businessmen?
