April 23, 200917 yr Hi, I was granted Permanenet residency some 3 years ago. Since then whenever I have shown my residency certificates or even Thai drivers licence I have been admitted to places like national parks at the Thai rate. When I renewed my driver's license it has a Thai ID number on it. During songkran festival I visited Phimai and was charged foreignor rates to enter the temple. I was told a new law says I must have a different type of Thai ID card, although the lady did not give me any information about this. Does anyone know about this? If so how do you obtain this card? Regards Mike Wood
April 23, 200917 yr Sounds like BS to me. If you have one of the new ID-card type driving licences, your unique 13-digit number from the tabien baan you're on will be shown there. If you have that plus your red Alien's Book it proves you have PR. In fact the Alien's Book is your "Thai ID" - I don't see them replacing that any time soon.
April 23, 200917 yr I don't see them replacing that any time soon. Agreed. My "little" red book looks like it was made, printed and stored in 1960. Bindings even falling apart, and its "new"

Regards Mike Wood I'm not doubting what you say, but it does seem a bit odd to me that for someone who went to the trouble of gaining residency you weren't able to persuade (in Thai) the official about being overcharged for entry to a temple. Or, did you just accept what they said without trying to argue the point? How did you get your residency status? Can't you just go back to the office that granted your residency and pose these questions there rather than seek help on a public forum? Edited April 23, 200917 yr by cat5
April 23, 200917 yr they can have mistakes and due to the "loss of face factor" they will not admit that they were wrong. i thought you know, this is thailand....
