The sample sentence is:

ผู้คนยืนต่อซื้อบัตรเข้าชมงานกันอย่างเนืองแน่น

My question is about what appears to be a confluence of three verbs: "ยืนต่อซื้อ". I can understand "ยืน" to mean something like "standing in line" and "ซื้อ" to mean buying tickets but I am puzzled by the word "ต่อ" between them. Does it mean:

1. to stand in a long, stretched out line (one after the other); 2. does in imply that they have been standing for a long time; 3. some other meaning implying tense; 4. some วากยสัมพันธ์ utility in Thai?

Assuming that the word ต่อ has no special implication, the sentence could mean:

"A huge number of people are packed together standing in line to purchase tickets to see the festival."

I would appreciate any corrections to this translation and/or clarity of the meaning of the "verb cluster". Thanks.

My first thought is that ต่อ should be followed by คิว or แถว.

ยืนต่อ just means stand behind each other (stand consecutively).

It has a similar meaning as เข้าคิว.

ซื้อ is a another, separate verb.

Maybe it helps if I split the sentence in 2 parts.

ผู้คนยืนต่อ ซื้อบัตรเข้าชมงานกันอย่างเนืองแน่น

When I read it I supposed it to mean /สำหรับ or เพิ่อ/ คนยืนเพิ่อซิ้อ....กัน Queue up to buy tickets would be the meaning. Although I think queue is maybe ยืนเรยง. I see from the dictionary that as a preposition they have เฉพาะ which also works doesn't it?
