TBWG
Hi Interesting reading ...Thailand might have an unwieldy unpredictable bureaucracy, but at least it has not reached UK standards of lunacy ...yet! An Obituary printed in the London Times........ Interesting and sadly rather true Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies ( don't spend more than you can earn ) and reliable strategies ( adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights I Want It Now Someone Else Is To Blame I'm A Victim Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing. TBWG

johna
Hi Interesting reading ...Thailand might have an unwieldy unpredictable bureaucracy, but at least it has not reached UK standards of lunacy ...yet! Thank God, so no one in the UK is being thrown in jail for insulting a government official. An Obituary printed in the London Times........ Interesting and sadly rather true This is what The Times does best birth's death's, and marriages. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. And this is a paper owned by Mr Rupert Murdock, champion of Milton Friedmans,s free market economy, ally of that bit#h Margaret Thatcher, its not the borrower who screwed up here but the Bankers Murdock so loves His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. I remember reading this story in the US 10 years back? like one isolated incident that was reported around the world, I bet the publicity the teachers received had them looking for a rock to crawl under. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. Yes I must agree we are not seeing enough children being admitted to emergency wards. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. That's a new one? aspirin is not recommended for children and adults are warned to use it sparingly Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. You have obviously never been in jail Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. No, you can use reasonable force, shooting buglers in the back is frowned upon. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. This is Stella Liebeck, her story has been grossly misreported by a media in the hands of big business, who have an agenda of tort reform. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason. You can blame the lying politicians, pedophile clergy and compliant judiciary for this murder. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights I Want It Now Someone Else Is To Blame I'm A Victim Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing. TBWG well well well, this is the kind of poof piece you can expect from The Times, the chinless wonders who read will no doubt be delighted, they will be calling for the hangman's return, and while we are it lets take the vote away from the rural poor who are not educated enough to understand Democracy. endure
Googling this brings up lots of blogs reporting this as printed as an obituary in the 'London Times'. The 'London Times' doesn't exist (it's 'The Times) and nowhere does 'The Times' real website actually appear in the search.
Camelot
Snopes.com tracks it to a chain email circulated in December, 2007, but it has been around for longer than that in various forms. I first read it years ago but it gets updated periodically. There is never any shortage of material.
Pierrot
Good post from the OP. A bit of fun is always appreciated these days. Actually it reminds me what Mark Twain said after reading his own orbituary printed by mistake in a newspaper "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated ..."
