Voltage Question

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.

I've just bought a film scanner from a guy in Canada. On the rear of the unit it states the voltage as 100-200V ~ 50/60Hz 0.40-0.25 A

Can I just plug it in here in Thailand or do I need an adaptor/voltage regulator?

Thanks

Does it actually say 100-240V (or similar), if so it will be fine.

If it really says 200V then you may have an issue (not aware of anywhere using 200V mains).

Yes, what I've outlined is exactly what engraved on the back of it - here's what the seller advised a guy in Ireland, who I guess use the same voltage. Is he correct?

I've got a 220-115V regulator - will this be it?

If it definitely says 200V then use your 220-115 regulator to be safe :)

Ensure the regulator has sufficient oomph to drive your scanner.

YUP, no problemo, plug away :)

And we all make mistakes, I have five kids :D

Thanks for that. The reason I asked was fear of blowing the lamp in the unit - absolutely unreplaceable. I'd then end up with a $2000 paper weight.

Cheers and regards to the kids!

Here in Thailand it should work. But whenever you plug in anything here it is a great idea to use a kind of condom to protect you. Ever saw very high voltage running at your power line? This occurs here many times at least in some areas ;-)

Boy, am I having fun (!) with this scanner!

Finally downloaded the software, "stuffit" and the user manual.

Page 19 says disconnect everything before installing software (please see p.23) - I go to p.23 and it says connect everything first!

I initially assumed just plug in the power and AFTER software installation connect the firewire cable, but this doesn't make sense to me and, in any event, it doesn't go on to say when to connect the cable assuming I power on first!

I know with Windows it's inveriably software first, then power up, but I'm not sure on a Mac.

Which way should I go?

p.s. pictures have loaded the wrong way around but I think you get my point
