Setting It All Up

Featured Replies

Ok, question for he experts. I want to watch movies on my TV from PC. I dont want to run cables. Below is what i currently have. I have read Microsoft site. But still unsure. Hence why am i asking for help here.

PC running XP Home

Broadband set up with WIFI- Computer connects with Broadband

Wireless Xbox 360 that connects via the WIFI to internet.

These connect through a Netgear Wireless cable modem gateway.

I know it can be done that i can stream movies through the Xbox to TV. But still unsure.

Do i have to upgrade to Vista?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sure can; read this. Granted, you can use the WMP 11 or Zune software, but I'm unsure if they transcode the source for ya.

sometimes in Vista some drivers are not working as vista is built with different structure, so sometimes you will have problems

install the media center extender and share the file directories..

Tho the 360 is kinda picky about file types, wont play DVD ISO's etc, is hit and miss on multi channel hidef files..

Better to wire up a cheap pc than a 360 for this task (and thats coming from someone with a home media net and 360s as media players in the bedroom systems).. Doing it again I would use small form factor pcs in each playback node location.

I want to use my 360 if i can. If not the other option is to get a thing(cant remember what its called) that i can plug a Hardrive into and the play through that. It's about 200 bucks. So if i can get another way instead of spending so much. Then thats what i wish to do.

Hi,

I can really recommend a small box from Western Digital, called WDTV. Can be bought at Pantip and other places they sell hardware. Plays all ur divx, mkv's in full HD!

Thats what i was looking at for $200. But dont need it now. but it does look good and would play movies on the TV. But since I have the 360 i have no need now.

Have you tried TVersity? It'll stream content from your PC to the 360 - I think it transcodes on the fly too, so not so much worry about formats.

I have a 360, but just wireless network connected to it, so streaming HD is not an option for me. The WDTV provides all i need, and support Dolby Digital as well. I wish MS could release a faster WiFi adapter for the 360.
