The coronation of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej on May 5, 1950.

THAILAND: -- Today, Thailand commemorates Coronation Day (Wun Chatramongkhon), the ascension to the throne of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej on May 5, 1950.

The auspicious date is a public holiday and this year’s commemorations mark the 59th anniversary of His Majesty’s reign.

King Bhumibol is also known as Rama IX. He is the world’s longest-serving head of state and longest-serving monarch in Thai history.

The day is one of merit making at temples around the nation and His Majesty traditionally makes a speech in the afternoon.

"He is the (of the currently serving) world’s longest-serving head of state"

They always seem to forget that part.

Why was my post 'Long may he reign' erased? PM me for the reason, that mod. All I said in my post was 'Long may he reign'.

Long Live the King!

:)

One of his graetest achievment "Fong Luang" or "Royal Rain" should deserve a Nobel prize. It would be an honor for all the Thai people if he is awarded with the prize. He can made rain fall on land where normal rainfall is not sufficient.

We all thanks "Fong Luang" everthime it rains.

Love live the king. The greatest sciencetist ever in Thailand, and perhaps the world.
