Brigante7
Hi all, the wife's uncle is disabled and in a wheelchair, while it is possible for the family to take him out in the car (They have a 4 door vigo) A toyota van (Or similar) with a wheelchair conversion where he could be wheeled straight up a ramp and into place in the back of the van and his wheelchair locked in to place would be ideal, does anybody have any info on companies that will do the conversion? Many thanks Brigante7.
harrry
Because of the constricted parking rear entry could be a problem. WIth a vigo you will need at least 2 metre ramps preferably a bit longer. If you are looking for another van the second hand Mercedes Vito is lower than most and the Toyota Ventury is reasonably low. The honda CRV is one of the lowest and you could probably get away with onlya metre and a bit ramp but headroom will be a problem if she is to remain seated. Many peple seem to rely on manal chairs and there is a seat available which swivels out of the car and the lowers for transfer rising and turning into the normal sitting place. If this is suitable it could be the easiest option here but would have to be installed on the drivers side of the car as other access is very difficult here. monty
Shoot an e-mail to the following company: http://www.wheelchairtours.com/vehicle.htm The owner speaks good English, is disabled himself (weelchair bound), and he owns several vans and tour buses converted for weelchair use. ignis
Have seen often 2 different Diahatsu, one a 'Move' the other a S221G both have rear ramps, the S331G No rear seats the wheelchair is used as the drivers seat Last year noticed a Chrysler Voyager the wheelchair was on a stand/platform that come out of the side door and lifted the person in the wheelchair up and then sideways into the van, this was in a supermarket and the Voyager block the road while this all took place.... Disabled parking had new cars for sale in the parking
