Special airline deals to, from Thailand

International airlines are offering special fares in and out of Thailand to stimulate spending, especially since most tourists are staying home due to the swine-flu virus.

Qantas/British Airways is offering return economy-class tickets to Australia (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide) from Bt15,590 and London from Bt23,650, provided they are booked for travel on or before June 30.

All fares exclude airport tax, service fees, insurance, fuel and other surcharges. Tickets are for a maximum 12 months' stay.

Northwest and Delta Air Lines are offering special deals to New York and Salt Lake City, though tickets need to be booked before June 21, with departures before June 30. A round-trip economy-class ticket from Bangkok to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Portland starts from Bt20,000, and Bangkok to Salt Lake City is priced at Bt26,500.

Fares to Atlanta, Boston, Miami, Washington DC, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis/St Paul, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and other cities costs Bt28,000, while a trip to New York starts from Bt32,400.

Pandit Chanapai, executive vice president, commercial, at Thai Airways International (THAI), said the airline is launching five direct flights a week to |Oslo on Airbus A340-500 aircraft from June 15. During the introduction period, the airline is offering special fares starting at Bt25,805 for economy, Bt57,695 for premium economy and Bt100,645 for Royal Silk class. Tickets need to be bought before July 31 for departures by the end of August.

Royal Orchid Plus members get double mileage if they travel on THAI's Royal Silk class, while premium economy travellers accrue 1.5 times the actual miles.

THAI is the first airline in Southeast Asia to operate direct flights to Oslo, bringing the airline's network in the Scandinavian market to a total of 19 flights a week.

The fare with BA after tax etc is added comes to almost 37,000 THB. They would have to drop their price considerably before I would consider that this was anywhere near a "special fare". I travel regularly to the UK and will be buying just a one way ticket from Thailand this time and will then purchase a return ticket on arrival .For the time being at least the best deals on return tickets seem to be the Lhr-Bkk-Lhr route rather than the other way around.

Friends of mine have just flown out with B.A .Lhr-Bkk-Lhr

Only paid £400 (bht20,000) taxes, ect, included

Mind you they said it was one of the worst flights they had ever had.

Dose anyone know why it is always nearly double to fly from Bkk
