I saw jfchandler's topic in the Bangkok forum reporting that he is seeing reduced hotel rates in Bangkok. Are rates being reduced around the country and if so, are you going to take advantage of this to travel in Thailand a bit?

I am thinking of dragging DH off the island when I get back to take a holiday, especially if hotels really are finally reducing their rates.

My next unscheduled visit (in 2 weeks) came courtesy of a China Air business class fare out of Brisbane. AU$1939 was just TOO hard to pass up. Buy before July, fly before October, 6 month ticket. They have LAX & AMS, Rome, FRA in Biz for around AU$2600 (inclusive).

Certainly looks like the usual suspects, Amari etc have dropped around 20% of late, while the high end 5 star's have stayed pretty much stagnant. Probably to keep out the riff raff I 'spose. :)

Can't afford 5 star places, but I would be interested in hearing of any good hotel deals around...

Hotels, especially upper Range Class Accomodations aren't

really places one can sell at discount's like 50-60% because it

will attract clients, which will scare away their clientele!

Some places have resorted to pushing up their list prices just to

flash their "discounts"!

Very common in this country of the "smart"!

There is no indication of any price reduction in newspaper advertising that I have noticed. Today the big advertisement in travel section was 9,999 per night for some new joint. I expect some tourist class hotels may be more open to direct contact then before but have not seen any real reports of people getting 'bargains' but there may be more stay a few get a night free than normal. But they don't seem to be able to afford the advertising to let anyone know. I am not in the business so only have a readers perspective.

Sure most will take advantage of any reduce hotel rate they can find as well they should, years and years many have been over paying at low class hotels for varies reasons. A little payback time is LONG OVERDUE to the Tourists and the General Public. :)

If you live in Bangkok, it seems like there is a travel fare at the Queen Sirikit Convention Center every other week. Thers is another one starting today called the Bangkok Post Thailand Travel Fare 2009. You usually get 30 to 50% off of the listed rate on hotel's web site and 10 to 20% cheaper than hotel reservation web sites. And, yes, I took an advantage of the last travel fare and booked a hotel in Krabi and taking off this weekend.
