Just bought a Canon PIXMA M145 printer today. I asked the staff if I could change the display language to English, and they said I could do that when installing the software. They would say that wouldn't they? Anyway, I get home and fire up the software, which immediately appears in Thai. Now, I can read Thai, but I much prefer to use English as I can read it much faster. No language option screen appeared during installation, and I saw no mention of anything related to display language. I then downloaded a driver from somewhere in the USA, but when running that again the language came up in Thai, even though I had erased everything from the initial install. I have visited the Canon Thailand site and found nothing there. Can't find anything on the disk either. If anyone knows how to do this I would be very grateful if you would share the info with me. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Check the Regional/Language settings of your computer. If Thai is allowed and installed there, chances are, the CD/Driver would show up in Thai. Disable it or completely remove it if you don't need it or just temporarily take it out then reinstall Thai language later on.

Welcome back!

Hi Sensei,

I just disabled Thai but it still opens up in Thai. I have spent at least 2 hours now trying to fix this, very frustrating. I know the majority of Canon printers here would go to Thai speakers, but you would think that this would be an issue often enough for them to put instructions somewhere on changing the language. Maybe they did, but I didn't find them.

P.S. Appreciate the welcome back. I didn't really go anywhere. I avoid the regular forum nowadays since it mostly contains a lot of nonsense, and mostly stuffed that has been discussed at least 50 times before. You know, stuff like "Is farang an insult?", or "I think my ex-bargirl wife might be cheating on me", "Thailand is horrible for xxx reason", ad nauseum. I do use the forum from time to time for stuff like this, which I find very useful.

Just a guess - try reinstalling the software and select an area in North America, Europe, NOT ASIA.

Try to download the software from Canon USA

CANON USA

You will only find mp 145 but mp140, mp150. Try them both! Model numbers in Asia are sometimes different from US or Europe

Also I done a Google search with some links you can review

Google MP145

I remember one one of theses screens during installation you can switch to English but it is written in Thai...

So try to install the English software

Good luck

Had the same problem with a Pixma 4000 I bought here. It turned out the driver disk was set to install in Thai, although the other languages were also on the disk.

Here is what I have done to solve the problem. My guess is it is similar for other Canon Printers.

First, decompress the install .exe file. I have winrar installed on my system, and it recognizes the .exe as a compressed file, so by right-clicking the driverset.exe it gives me the option to decompres all contents to a folder. Do that.

Next, find the file "setup.ini" in the subfolder DrvSetup. Open it in Notepad.

Scroll down until you see a headline: [LANGUAGES]

The section should look as this:

[LANGUAGES]

; LangID(Hex)=LanguageName, StringTableFile, ResourceDLL

; If the righthand value is "<SELECT>", display selection dialog.

; 0000 ---- Neutral(Default)

0000=<SELECT>

0001=THAI,RES\STRING\IJInstthai.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstthai.dll

0002= ......

..... (here are more languages listed ...)

.....

0009=THAI,RES\STRING\IJInstEN.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstEN.dll

Now, DELETE ALL LINES APART FROM THE ONE mentioning English (EN)!!!!!

The final block should look now:

[LANGUAGES]

; LangID(Hex)=LanguageName, StringTableFile, ResourceDLL

; If the righthand value is "<SELECT>", display selection dialog.

; 0000 ---- Neutral(Default)

0000=<SELECT>

0009=THAI,RES\STRING\IJInstEN.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstEN.dll

Make sure you have no empty lines within the [LANGUAGE] Block, but an empty line should be after the last line, and the next block, starting with [ !

Save the .ini file, and stat the installation with doubleclick on setup.exe in the same directory! Done!

Hope that helps!

I would go online and download from Singapore as often the included setup has been revised by the time it gets on the market here.

After hours of messing around I just figured out how to fix this ...

1) Go to Control Panel/Regional and Lanuage options

2) Click on the Advnced Tab

3) Change the "Language for non-unicode programe" to one of the English options (UK, US, etc). On my PC it was previoulsy set to Thai

I did this after uninstalling everything and then re-installed - everything is now in English .. intsallation process, printer properties, bundled software. Finally ... phew!!

You may get lucky and just find it changes the language of programs already installed. Please post a reply and let people know if you try this.

My guess is that this will work for all Canon Pixma or other printers, scanners and multi-function devices.

I was using Canon Pixma MP568.

Note, this is a universal setting, so could chang ethe language of other programs, but I haven;t come across anything else that is affected yet.

Best of Luck

I have a Pixma MP145 and installed the drivers off the disc that came with the printer. It was always English. I think your PC regional option may be set to Thai. Check it and set it to English if necessary. I'm not sure but you may have to remove and reinstall the printer software to activate the change.
