Visa Status

Featured Replies

I have been working with one school in Khon kaen and recently picked up a new job with another school in Chumphae. Actually my NON-B visa expires on the 30th Oct. 2009 but I had handed in my work permit to my former school way back in April. I don't know if this is going to affect my visa status since I no longer work with my former school.Despite that, I still have a valid visa in my passport so I'm confused. I need help on what move to make next please. One guy told me I could be fined a max. of 20.000THB, I don't know how true that is. What should I do now that I have already started working with the new school?

Kind regards,

Marvel

When you next go to immigration for your extension application or for anything else you had best have 20,000 baht (500 baht per day) with you to pay the maximum fine for an overstay. It will be from the date that is on the letter from your old school that states the day that you stpped working for them to the date that you go to immigration. When you go to immigration with paperwork from your new school they will want to to see the letter from the old one.

I don't think you have a visa. You have an extension of stay.

Unless you have a multiple entry visa and are making border runs every 90 days. Then it would not be a problem.

Do you have a valid visa or extension of stay in your passport? A visa is issued by a consulate and for and October date would have been issued last year and you have had to enter exit every 90 days. If it is a visa entry and you are on a 90 day stay there should not be any problem.

Do you have a current work permit for the new school?

If it is an extension of stay (from immigration) for one year and you have not had to leave the country every 90 days it ended the day your employment ended. Every day after that is overstay at 500 baht per day up to 20k.

Yes it's an extension of stay from Nongkhai Immi office whereby I report after every 90 days. I haven't had a work permit with the new school yet. Thanks so much, I will be going for my next report on the 10th of June and I just have to prepare the 20k because I handed my work permit on April 10th. Is there anything my new schol can do to redress the situation?

You do not have a valid extension of stay and you will not qualify for one without a work permit. So it really boils down to what you plan for the future. If you plan to continue working without a work permit you might want to go to Vientiane before June 4 to get a 2 entry tourist visa free and return to work. But if you plan to get back into legal status you will probably have to go to Immigration and pay your overstay. As you do not have a work permit you can not obtain another extension of stay so the best you can do is get 7 days to leave. You then use that time to obtain a new visa.
