Guys,

I've been working in Indonesia for the past few years and am now heading to Zambia in Africa. The phone lines into Zambia are shocking everytime I try to call there. I've previously used Skype at some point of time to call the wife and family back in Phuket and plan on using this if possible whilst in Zambia.

Who is the best and most reliable Broadband supplier in Phuket, Patong area so that I can get hooked up in my home?

I have not used all of the various sources here in Phuket, however, I am familiar and more than happy with TOT. Without experiencing the problems myself, I'm aware of people who use TT&T who experience outages frequently. Difficult one to call, best to try the most financially advantageous package, and if necessary change it later.

TT & T if u can get a phone line.

Otherwise get a CAT card and u get speeds of about 575 down and 250 up everywhere in Thailand EXCEPT Bangkok ( card is 6,500-7,200 baht and 790/month) unlimited

I use TOT with a 4mb download and 856kbps upload.

TOT are ok, but not perfect, but it does only cost 790 baht a month.

It does go out when there is rain, then I have to reboot the modem and it works again.

I would recommend TT&T but I can't change as it would cost a fortune.

Richard,

I don't have a phone line where we live at the moment, i've heard about these cards before but never seen them in the shops. Where can I get one in Phuket? If the phone line seems impossible i'll trial the card.

We have had TOT for just over a week now. It took 10 days to get it up and running after they told us 3 days when we signed up. It has gone done 3 times in the 1 week we have had the service. Usually takes them about 5 hours to get it back up.

Go to any CAT office, 1 in Patong, Central, Phuket town

Card cost 11.000 and 850 a month the card is a CDMA MC727, Google it.

its work OK for me.

Last Result:

Download Speed: 806 kbps (100.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 331 kbps (41.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

This is too a server in San Francisco

I use TOT on Chao Fa West & pay 590 per month. I just checked the speed & got 1652 download & 259 upload. It will probably slow down later in the day but does not bother me as I am mostly connected in the mornings. There has been negligible down time in the two years I have been using it & if there is a problem you get better results by going upstairs at the TOT office on Chao Fa.

My 2,500baht/mo TT&T Maxnet 4mb usually clocks 3500kbps down and never better than 350up (advertised 1000up) The line drops frequently, especially in the rain. After Thurdays rain it has been down, and my sweet landlady turned the technicians away around noon telling them I was sleeping. I was up and waiting all day for them. :)

I went to TOT today to see about switching. The 4mb connection for 790 TheBrit mentioned above sounds nice, and I am not far from thier big telecomunications hub in Chalong. But it sounds like many have the same issues with them as well.

I have had TOT for just over a year, and like you, live near their hub/offices in Chalong. To be frank, I've never had a problem with their service, only very occasionally during 'extreme' bad weather. Conversely, I know people on the same estate who have TT&T, and their service is up and down like you know what. What I do find though, if the connection does drop out, just re-booting the router works all the time.

I'm in Patong and using TT&T. The 1st year my service was great the last 4 months or so have been awful. Constant disconnects even today at least 10 times.

Richard,

I ended up going with the CAT Telecom Card. 6500 baht for the card, they set it up not that it was very difficult but they required the cards number, 845 (with tax) baht per month for unlimited download/hours and there was a promotion going so I get 3 months free and don't pay anything until September. The speed is great but occasionally bogs down alittle late at night but I get 100k/sec download.

Thanks for the help.
