February 9, 200521 yr British and International Police to Help Combat Sex Tourism British police are in Thailand to help train the country’s force in ways of cracking down on child sex offences, it emerged today. The move follows growing concern at high levels of sex tourism and online abuse in south-east Asia. The Foreign Office and the National Crime Intelligence Service are running the project in a bid to cut paedophilia and other serious sex offences across the region. More than 50 police officers from 11 counties are in Bangkok to learn from UK investigators. Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell will disclose details of the project at a briefing in London today. Tougher measures to stop British paedophiles travelling abroad for “sex tourism” were introduced in 2003. In 2003 the Government announced new powers to ban offenders from going to countries renowned for their sex industries, such as Thailand. British paedophiles may also be banned from travelling to an entire continent, such as Asia, if police fear they are planning a sex tour of several countries. --Scotsman.com 2005-02-09
