Alcohol Sales Banned Near Universities

Featured Replies

I live near Rangsit University and noticed that all sales of alcohol have been stopped in all shops and resturants near the campus, even the local 711. I was told by one owner that there is new legislation banning all sales within a certain distance of any university in Thailand.

Does anyone know when this law came into effect and what the distance is?

Thanks

I asked my university Ajahn colleages.

It's not a new law, maybe enforcement has been lax in the area you mentioned. They say the distance is 1 kilometre.

1 kilometer? I guess they're going to have to shut down Khao San Road.

Wow 1 Km, no wonder never really enforced or Bankok would be alcohol free with the number of Universities there.

Still strange as only seems to be being enforced on the main road by Rangsit University, other resturants that are less than 1Km away are still selling alcohol (or maybe they have special arrangement).

Also curious as to why BIB are enforcing now.

Scorecard - thanks for the feedback.
