hi, i've bought my xbox 360 from the states and brought it here in my suitcase and after it working for a few months i get the "e74 error" displayed on my tv. i have taken out the av cable and used a fresh av cable and the error is still there. so now i have no option but to go and have it repaired. does anyone know where i can get this done and how much it will cost me? any help would be greatly appreciated.

here the link to the topic:

i hope this works like this!

i have read this post, but are you sure we both have the same error? the e74 is not the same as the old rrod. it's a new error only appearing on the falcon chips, and the rrod error appears on the older chips.

anyways, have you been able to go to that shop and have it looked at? i would like to know the exact location of the shop.

Bangkok Forum!I am going to repair it myself...wish me good luck!:-)

mate, how did that go? were you able to fix it?

i just got back from mbk and i found a shop on the 4th floor, apparently costs 2500, takes a few days, and i decided to get my box modded as well for a total of 3000. i couldn't find a better deal, i tried looking for that store the other guy was talking about but couldn't find it.

i'm going to miss xbox live.

i was just checking in the internet...the fix for your your problem is the same as for mine...so in about one week should have the screws so i can repair mine...check on youtube how to repair it...if you not have two left hands you should easily be able to fix it yourself.regards

okay so let me know how it goes, i'm not sure yet. i just found a new shop in mbk yesterday and the guy seems to know more than the previous guy, he was mentioned error codes and he said he had heard about e74 before so i left it with him and he said it should take 2-3 days. if that doesn't work out i might just do it myself.

just thought i'd update and say my xbox is finally working!!! the shop on the 6th floor were able to fix it, it took about 2 weeks and they gave me 1 month warranty as well. it cost me 1,500 and i tried to bargain but they wouldn't budge, still, a good deal i would say. it works like a charm and so far i haven't had any problems.

I had both of my modded PAL 360's (each of which had RROD'd before) fail within 4 weeks of each other this June

I took them back to the same shop at pantip that fixed the overheating RROD problem which plauged the early 360s.

This time however, both had failed with the dreaded E74 error

One week later they called today and said it would cost nearly as much to buy new 360's than fix them due to the previous repair job (which added a lot more noisy fans and other bits and bobs)

Both 360's were bought at launch in UK in Dec 2005 as I was on holiday in UK at the time and had a mate who worked in a game shop so had them reserved

Luckily I had an unboxed 360 Elite (bought last year when I was back in UK for holiday) which I have just had modded (at a different shop) and hope it lasts till my mum brings out a new 360 in November!

M$ have the worst hardware quality BY FAR! Both my US Wii and US PS3, both bought at launch are still working fine after all this time

I think the new Dashboard may have had a part in both failures as I've been hearing of many E74 errors since the new dashboard became compulsory

no man, the thing with MS and the 360 is that it's all bad manufacturing. their parts are all fine. the main problem with the E74 and RROD is that the solder joints melt due to so much heat being dissipated.

if you want to check out this shop, go ahead, cuz they fixed my E74 error for 1,500 which i'd say is a good deal. pantip isn't really good for consoles. i'd recommend you check out the same shop i went to, they even knew what the error codes were, and the guy speaks pretty decent english.

Thanks for the advice mate but have given up already on both old 360s

The modded Elite (which I have had in the original packaging for a year now) is silent compared to the loud drone I've had to tolerate since I had my other 360's fixed from their original RROD!

Finally I can play at night with headphones without waking the wife! The din from extra fans of the repaired 360's was so loud before that it kept waking her up

Am downloading my gamertag now and will then transfer all my xbox live arcade licenses to this new console and get all the games I missed since I got banned shortly after Halo 3 came out :)

I will keep one 360 for spares just in case but my other broken 360 is up for grabs for free

If anybody wants a broken PAL 360 (minus PSU, controller, leads etc) with the E74 error for parts or is a whizz with electronics and can fix it for themself please PM me

First PM gets it but will have to collect it from my house on wireless road after 7pm

Already asked my mum to buy a new PAL 360 just before she leaves for her annual visit

In the long run it's a cheaper option anyway doing it this way

Wonder how long I'll survive on XBL this time :D Never really missed it anyway as have been using my PS3 for multiplayer games

I do want the new Magic:The Gathering game though so that's my first purchase for sure

Cheers

Ian

ah well my 360 isn't the launch version, it's the one with the falcon chip, so a little over a year old. how do you play on xbl with a modded chip? i'm thinking of getting it modded but the only reason i don't want to is because i don't want to get banned at all. i would rather just play halo 3 till i get bored and then get it modded, unless your method works.

The ban ONLY affects the console not the gamertag so if you get a new console you can play again until the next wave of bans come

Never really missed it to be honest as most as PSN is catching up so get the games for PS3

oh i see...well then i guess i'm not getting it modded heh. i got my 360 for free and it works great, so i'm not going to risk it and have to buy a new one. not getting a ps3 either.

funny story actually, i've been a ps fan through and through, owned the ps1 and played it to death, still own the ps2 and play it to death when i can, and owned the ps3 for about 6 months then got fed up with the laggy gameplay/less choice of games/substandard psn compared xbl. so switched to 360 and after a few months i end up getting the e74, BUT it's working now and i'm happy. think i'll stick with this for a while.

if you're ever playing halo 3, add me on xbl, my gamertag is akarmaka.

If I could get original PAL games here I would not have modded my 360

For more than 18 months I kept my 360 unmodded and was getting my games bought online (HMV or GAME) and sent to me via my mum in the UK

Was great and only took 3-4 days to get here on average airmail - no duty or anything

Then I got RROD and at the time nobody could fix them so had a new 360 sent from the UK and continued with the originals until around 6 months later when my 2nd 360 got RROD

By that time they could fix these early overheating consoles by adding more fans and other little things (which made them VERY noisy unfortunately)

As they were fixing my 360's I told them to mod them as well as I was so peeved with M$

I know some games are region free but most of the time the games I want are region locked and have yet to find a place here that sells original PAL 360 games

Region Coding games is such a stupid idea and encourages piracy if you ask me!

I regularly buy the AAA PS3 games as ALL PS3 games are region free (though extra DLC often is not)

yeah...rrod is not really a problem with the new 360s anymore though, it's the e74 these days, which isn't really a big problem, it's just a simple soldering thing and cleaning job on the gpu, so i'm hoping it doesn't happen again, knock on wood.

now, i'm a guitar hero guy, i love that game and could play it forever, you know where i can buy cheap guitar controllers for that here? not willing to pay the full price for it...cuz i'm a cheap arse :)

The shop in pantip were supposed to be really good at fixing them in the old days

I suspect their original fixes of my two overheating early model 360's may have made the E74 repair too difficult to do.

They had both machines for a week but never charged me anything except the 200baht deposit I gave for the pair of them.

For non official Guitar Hero guitars try MBK. Have seen them there but am not sure if they are wireless or not

Bought GH3 for PS3 but only played it a few times - I've never had much sense of rhythm and so pretty much crap at these types of game (even easy is beyond me!)
