Samui is to be the first destination in Thailand to feature an adult-only resort at the Bhundari Spa Resort & Villas.

Whilst a high number of travellers seek family-friendly accommodation, there are those who don’t have children of their own and don’t want their peace and serenity interrupted by anybody else’s.

Bhundhari Spa Resort & Villas Samui, a recently acquired Centara Resort, is a four-star property which is being specifically marketed for such people. Mr. Chris Bailey, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Centara Hotels and Resorts, states, “We have been looking at the market, and realised that there is potentially a strong demand for luxury spa resort accommodation that provides a romantic retreat for couples who did not want to be surrounded by children and families; where guests really could enjoy a private atmosphere. Bhundhari Spa Resort & Villas has therefore been developed for this concept, and now that the resort is fully open it is being marketed to the adult sector; to honeymooners and to couples and individuals who want to get away for a quiet celebration and vacation. This is, we believe, the first resort hotel in Thailand to be aiming exclusively at this sector of the market.”

Mr. Bailey says that Centara’s ‘Club’ concept is an important feature of the resort, offering exclusive and private Club Lounge access to guests along with Centara signature service of five complimentary daily meal presentations; namely continental breakfast, mid-morning snacks, lunchtime snacks, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails and canapés. “The idea is for complete, unashamed luxury. Our guests are given individual attention by our staff, but they also have the privacy and the peace that comes when there are no distractions, such as children having their own kind of fun.”

It seems appropriate that if Samui is to maintain its reputation as a worldwide destination the island has to cater to guests from all sectors of the tourism market. Therefore, this concept may well lead the way for more resorts to target specific market niches.

in other words they are marketing the sex tourist

Read few threads on kids on planes here in TV. Do you think all those complaining are sex tourists ?

So they will be cocooned in their "five meals per day" luxury resort? Never to be let out into the hustle and bustle...

They may as well go and take a cruise round the Carribean. Probably wouldn't notice the difference.

Well, time to stop feeding the trolls then, night... :)

Why is this so hard a concept for some to get? Sandals cater to the couple without kids crowd or those with kids but who want a holiday away from them. Seems Samui would be the perfect place to open something similar.

Never found a sex tourist waking me up in the middle of a 12 hour flight...

Kids kicking the back of the seat or screaming endlessy instead are a bit annoying, even after taking a liter of Valium....that instead should be fed to the children :)

Of course in a hotel when the sex tourist come back at 2 am with a non english speaking rent-a-girlfriend it may became more annoying than kids :D

But the solution is to get a bungalow, so whatever people are doing on the next room is not a problem....

Issuing every child with a compulsory sedative along with their boarding pass would be a welcome idea, or strapping them in a sound proof section of the plane where nobody can here them scream? Not their fault I guess, kids are cool enough but they dont travel well, not on long flights anyway. Children and hotels often dont get on very well either.

Quite underastandable for a hotel to offer a child free holiday resort for those that dont wish have little ones around in their holiday accomodation. Why not?

Adult only resorts does not necessarily imply sex tourists, interesting that so many people's minds follow this route tho. :)

Normally, a five star adult only resort is, as Boo mentions, along the lines of Sandals. Hardly sex tourist central.

I agree entirely with sbk and Boo. I don't even make the connection with sex tourism. As much as I enjoy children I can understand where others might not like children around when they are enjoying themselves on a romantic holiday. There are plenty of places to take children and not annoy other adults. There are a lot of irresponsible parents who don't remove their children when they are bothering others in an adult location. Cooped up on a long, transcontinental flight with crying infants is just something we have to put up with.

There are "couples only (no kids)" resorts all over the world, and they're not meant to cater to "sex tourists" (I would bet this resort will discourage that with extra charges for guests that aren't on the registration card, i.e.)- they're a great idea.

My son is the primary focus of my life, but sometimes I need to reconnect with the wife and leave him at grandma's (and I don't want to deal with anybody else's kids either)- anybody that doesn't understand this isn't a full-time parent. :)

Spot on! Its good to have a break and when I am, I don't want some other peoples little darlings ruining it.

There are specialised resorts since years at all major destinations around the Mediterranean. That is not a discrimination against someone. It is a concept to attract certain customers.

Some resorts supply for the big high school graduation holidays, where hundreds of young people party the whole time, others for honeymooners only. There are XXX catalogues for that.

Some resorts even mention in their catalogues that the don't allow certain nationalities, Russians for instance. Because of fear that their main customers, German families for instance, would stay away.

Sounds like a little adult Fun, so I say why not? don't we all at one point get :) at tripping over other people kids where ever you go(Big C, Lotus, Marko etc) Love kids but like everything else there is a place for them, Adults need a little space once in awhile and likewise do the kid. :D:D:D

This resort is between Chaweng and Choenmon.

Hardly a place for sex-tourists, they like to where the girls are.

It's a huge place on both sides of the road, very secluded from tailors, seven eleven, bars etc.

I think the concept will suit this place.

When viewed from the sea, it resembles council house estates in the UK, awful!!

Not the topic, but you are right. It personifies everything that is bad about Samui. The sheer greed of unconstrained development

and no care whatsover for the ecological impact is saddening. I have seen much better council estates. :)

To all the people who jump to the sex tourist drumbeat: Where do you think those kids come from?

Anyway, this is a gimmick. Most resorts cater to anyone, but the reality is that most of the time, vacationers are not hauling around the rug-rats.

Many concerned here that one resort calls itself "No kids".

Are you the same people that get upset because it's a "gay resort" or a place is called Scandinavian?

Maybe there are some children friendly places you can stay. :)

It will be nice to be in a pool occasionally that is not full of other peoples kids screaming peeing and carrying on.....

Same goes for restaurants.

I spent 3 weeks using swept away in Jamaica as a base with the wife, adults only absolute bliss.

Kids are great but sometimes its nice to have silence and relax in a nice location.

Good on them for attempting that type of market.

with few exceptions, i find the parents are more the issue then the children. but then i am lucky, my kid passes out hte moment she hits any form of transport.

that said i fly tomorrow, and i may well regret this statement.

agreed. there is a gap in the market for it. nothing i hate more than paying for an expensive hotel or resturant or plane ticket and sitting next to a screeming kid. most of the time the parents do nothing but then what can they do aprt from leave. where is this place again

I just returned from a holiday in Tenerife. We stayed in a 'family' resort and I can tell you now I would have loved it to be a 'no kids' resort!

Posted

Yes , i like it .

Sorry but not everybody like screaming people around . You like it , ok no problem ... plenty of places where you can go . I do not want it ... well there is a place now .

For people still thinking they are idiots ... what's the worst thing when you get in an aircraft besides getiing an accident etc . Yes , it is a couple of young kids next to your seat . with children or without ... any time without children .
