Oxidative Stress A Factor For Aids?

Just wanted to share some information, and by all means - no miracle cure here - but maybe something that might be of interest.

Dr. Luc Montagnier, have often mentioned "co-factors" of HIV / AIDS playing a significant role in the progress of the disease.

Of these co-factors, the one that have been researched the most is "oxidative stress".

And he is using / recommending FPP (Fermented Papaya Preparation) to cure the "oxidative stress". It's mentioned that NAC also helps. Both helps slow down the process of cell death.

The good part is that there is no negative side effects from using FPP, and it also don't interfere with your current medication.

a bit more information.

I've often seen the notion that silver colloid is "snake oil" - but will provide the following link, without any further comments.

and there is a link to the whole report (PDF) in the right pane.

Please look "about JN" before dismissing the report.

Have a lot more information - but I feel these were the most important.

In my humble, and non qualified opinion, it's a part factor in western outbreaks and may be contingent, it nearly always seems to be at the scene so to speak.

And there are plenty of other stressors too elsewhere in the world.

There's a group called the Perth Group who advocate that it is in fact the sole cause but I really don't know, there certainly seems to be a contagious element to the disease. Largely the evidence they give has been discredited.

IMHO, this is a very messy area of science and until a thorough revision is undertaken we will get nowhere.

Good post.

1. Dr. Montaigner does indeed advocate antioxidant supplmentation for persons with HIV and is conducting realted research but has never, AFAIK, advocated the use of fermented papaya etc and the link below that statement does not contain or refer to anything he wrote. That same link also a) does not contain anything about fermented papaya, :) is not a paper. it is a letter to the editor, c) does not state that NAC (n-acetylcysteine) should be used by persons with HIV but rather urges that research be done to find out if it would be helpful (such research is ongoing) and d) Is almost 19 years old (1990).

There are much more current articles and research on the role of oxidative stress in the immune system damage caused by HIV and I am not sure why a 19 year old letter to the editor would be cited- - nor on what the point of raising this issue even is. The citations given appear to be taken from AIDs conspiracy wesites which used them out of context.

2. The third link is to an AIDs conspiracy website paper that is both filled with inaccuracies and not, as far as I can see, related to the topic.

3) The last link discusses the effect of colloidal silver when topically applied to cultures of virus and should not be in any way confused with the ingestion of diulte collodial silver preparations advocated by some as a form of alternative medicine. The efficiacy and safety of the latter, in treating anything, let alone HIV, is unproven.

"Fermented papaya preparation"(not to be confused with fermedted papaya paste, made from the skin for topical use and known to have some dangerous effects) is a popular food in Japan. It does contain antioxidants; so does unfermented papaya.

Certainly it is a good idea for anyone with HIV to both eat a healthy diet naturally high in antioxidants and most physicians do recommend that HIV positive patients take antioxidant supplements e.g. supplemental Vit A, C and E (or a good multivitamin supplements containing them). Indeed back before the current antiretroviral drugs were available that sort of advice was about all they had to offer. And yes, research is ongoing on the therapeutic use of antioxidative agents (reducing agents) as an adjunct to HAART as well as in earlier stages of HIV infection when HAART is not yet indicated.
