Cash Or Bank Account?

with thai baht account interest rates so low and with most transactions being done in cash,would one just keep the physical cash in safe deposit boxes instead of in a bank account?one could just go to his deposit box once a week and take out whatever cash he needs instead of using the passbook or atm card to do the same thing anyway.what currencies do people keep in boxes beside bahts?

but from what i've read, its hard for a farang to obtain a safety deposit box.
