Just seen an Ad on TV for a Sub of the Day 59 Baht at Subway, anybody know what this is and what is the Sub of the Day?

Thanks

Subway temporarily reduced the price of the 6 inch Sub (sandwich) of the Day to only 59 baht. I believe all Subway stores in Thailand participate in offering this deal.

The Subs of the Day are as follows:

Monday: Italian B.M.T.

Tuesday: Tuna

Wednesday: Sliced chicken and Ham

Thursday: Ham

Friday: B.L.T.

Saturday: Sliced Chicken

Sunday; Pizza Sub

Having just finished helping out the 8th Samui Regatta and eating a couple of Subs a day from the sponsors I must say I found them to be CRAP! Sorry ! They tend to be very light on the meat and some were far from what I would call fresh. I don't know what they are selling for here on Samui but I for one would not pay money for anything like I received for free during the regatta. A good regatta but a sad, sorry sandwich :)

Subs from Subway in the US are an acceptable emergency or convenience meal. The tuna, for example, is OK.  But here in Thailand, I really find them below the acceptable level.  I have only had them twice, so perhaps that was just bad luck on my part, but I don't see a reason to try again.

For my subs, I get the batard or baguette at St. Etoile and put in my own fillings.  My favorite is genoa salami from Italy (not US-made genoa), an olive compote, thinly sliced tomatoes and onion, oregano, artichoke hearts, good olive oil, and balsamico.  That, my friends, is a sub!

So what does that cost? About 300 baht?

44 baht for the bread. 10 baht, if that, for the tomatoes and onion. I bring the rest from the US. Compote is 60 baht for enough to make maybe 15 subs. Olive oil and balsamico? Maybe 3 baht's worth. Oregano? One baht? Artichoke hearts? Maybe 5 baht. The most expensive thing is the salami. If I can't score one for free at a food show, I have to pay $100 for a really good salami ($25 for a so-so salami. ) I can get 40 subs out of one salami. So that is 85 baht for the salami if I have to pay for it.

So one huge sub, enough for two, and quite delicious is about 67 baht if I get a free salami, 152 if I have to pay for a good one.

So you're saying it's not only tastier, but cheaper to make your own food? Incroyable! :)

Just one thing - you forgot to factor in the soggy paper to wrap around your sub. It just doesn't taste the same without those little bits of paper stuck to your lip.

Good point. Maybe I can get Subway to sell me some of that paper. :)
