I believe Thai is still running their non-stop LAX-BKK route, using one of their nice new extended-range planes.

Singapore Air runs the same planes non-stop on their LAX-SIN, LAX-SIN, and NYC-SIN I believe.

There is no non-stop service between USA-KUL to my knowledge.

I just flew the non-stop LAX-BKK flight on Thai on May 26.

Yes, Thai airlines has the only nonstop flight from bkk/lax, I believe it's six or seven days a week.

I've flown the route at least 10 times and always on time, enjoyable flight. Only drawback is that is probably the most expensive economy ticket out of any airlines. I'm stuck flying with Thai airlines because I've maintained my GOLD status.

TG still runs their a340-500 to lax nonstop?

I though they would change it to a 772ER with stop in kansai.

I flew back last january. Would you believe it was the longest flight ever in my life? 17+ hours with the AVOD not working. NO music or or movies. The system failed the entire flight.

On the way to LAX wasn't bad it was only like 12-13 hours.

Yes, still operating. I had a perfect flight and was quite pleased. But as others said...quite expensive...particularly for business class. However, BC was completely full, so they must be doing something right.

Thai Airways from Los angeles to BKK. They used to have a New York to BKK but stopped that a while back.

Quite frankly, I do not think the Thai airways direct flight from LAX to BKK is worth buying. It is above $1500 USD. You can fly EVA or China Air and connect through Taiwan and that only adds about three hours of travel time, and costs about $500 less. If your time is really that valuable, then take the nonstop flight. I prefer the 1 AM eva or china air departure flight. Gets you into BKK at around 11 AM or so, depending on exactly what flight you booked.

$500 is a lot of fun in Thailand, or 1/2 of a roundtrip ticket for the next time I visit.

For some of us seniors with medical issues, one 17 hour flight is preferable to a significantly longer flight. Naturally, I wish the Thai flight were cheaper, but I was surprised to see that every business class seat was taken on the flight.

This depends on when you travel.

I had a quote for $1300.

Still, $300 is a lot of fun in LOS. :)

Thanks for the replies. I checked with a travel agent in Bangkok on Sunday and the Thai flight to LA, non-stop is B 50,200 for a 6 month ticket and B53,000 for a 1 year ticket.

I agree I would rather take CAL all the way to the East coast for B 54,700 but the ticket is for my son who recently had a lung operation and wont be able to fly until August and we need a nonstop flight. New York would have been great but that service has been discontinued. From LA we will probably take a train to the east coast.

You do, realize, I hope, that LA to NY by rail is a 2.5 day trip on a not particularly nice train. If he needs to get to the East Coast, it would seem that making a stop somewhere in Asia would save considerable time. Alternatively, if he did by non-stop to LA, he could then buy a coast-coast flight on any number of airlines for cheap (try Southwest or JetBlue, for starters), perhaps eve cheaper than AmTrak.

Where do you live in the states?

Don't forget Thai air also fly out of Dallas-fort worth.

Where do you get your information from? Thai ONLY flies to LAX and no other North American cities. They did fly to JFK a year ago but discontinued that flight. They may possibly have codeshare flights with United or other airlines, but Thai planes only fly to LAX.

Thanks for your reply but I dont think you understand the problem. My son has just had a lung operation and after about a months recuperation he will be ready to fly but the problem isn't in the flying itself but the take off and landings. So to minimize the takeoff/landings we are looking to fly nonstop from Bkk to LA then by train to Baltimore. I know I could purchase a cheap flight from LA but for that matter if the takeoff/landings weren't a problem I would just purchase the entire ticket here in bkk. As far as the train trip we are both looking forward to doing that as neither of us have ever traveled accross the US. Will probably stop somewhere along the way for a couple of days.

An alternate would be to go by train to Newark and fly non-stop from there to Singapore on Singapore Airlines. Then I believe you can get a train from there to Bangkok. I believe Singapore Air now has an all-business class cabin on that route, so no economy or economy plus.

Posted

Just to be clear, I was planning a trip just this evening and on the Thai site the non-stop economy was just over 46,000 Baht. Eva air wanted just over 45,000. Not much of a difference for the non-stop.

I'm traveling with a toddler so I too am trying to minimize the take offs and landings.

Keep in mind that the train has to pass over and through at least two sizeable mountain ranges, the Sierras and the Rockies as well as the smaller Appalachians, to get all the way out east. If you are worried about pressure changes during take-offs and landings in a pressurized aircraft cabin, the overall changes may not be much different in an unpressurized train cabin at 7k-8k feet of altitude. I haven't done the math and I'm not a doctor, but this was just something that popped out at me when reading your post. As an aside note that you are probably already aware of, good old government run Amtrak is quite slow and unreliable outside of the NYC-DC corridor. According to the website is a 3+ day journey, assuming that all trains run on time. Good luck with whatever option you choose.

Thai Airway had one late last year, but as I recall it start at four times a week, then two times a week and the Cancle(?) :D:D Non-stop are great, for sure if you can afford to fly First Class :):D

This false information continues to be posted on this board, it seems almost weekly. Thai Air did not cancel their non-stop from LAX to BKK. It is still operating. They only cancelled the JFK to BKK flight. The LAX to BKK flight may be experiencing some cutbacks as most major airlines are cutting back on flights, but it is not cancelled.

Agreed. Particularly annoying since that if he read this thread he would have seen that a number of us have flown it within the last month.
