Favourite And Not So Favourite Place In Los

Lately the word Hua Hin has come up a lot on TV. Mostly in a positive way.

Lets get this clear first, I love Thailand. But I thought this place (HH) was way below par.

So I've already made my mind up for the worst place I've visited in LOS.

My favourite, which is a lot more difficult to decide would have to be Pattaya :) only joking.

Ko chang would be my choice.

Whats yours?

Bangkok - Absolutely hate

Chang Mai - I enjoy it but couldnt live there

Pattaya - So so, sorry to say too many ar*e-hole farangs

Hua Hin - Cleaner more laid back version of Pattaya

Jomtien - tolerate it, plenty of farang ar*e-holes, but less than Pattaya

Koh Chang - used to love the place but getting over commericalised

Koh Phi phi - OK for a visit once

Koh Nanguan - Love the place, although a little isolated for my Mrs

Krabi Area - nice place, once I finish work and retire, may be thats where I am headed ??

Koh Samui - tourist trap

Phuket - tourist trap

I gave up on cabin & island fever a long time back - I need people to function properly. The commercial islands are terrible & the

uninhabited ones are real spooky. Hawaii is good.

Pattaya, although it has changed for the worse, is still very dynamic - I always live offshore, as it were - but can hop into the mainstream

very easily. My fav spot is, and will always be Peppermint Bar on Walking St. Some really, exquisite ornamental babes.

Favourite place in Swampy airport on arrival, least favourite is Swampy airport on departure especially when its winter in England.

Raylay Beach is pretty perfect aswell, least favourite are the many downmarket nightclubs of BKK.

Not sure I have any place I have been to that I really dislike.

Nakhonsawan is OK if somewhat limited in scope - then again many places are after you have been there a while :)

Pattaya is OK for weekend trips and for a change of scene.

Cannot say I rated Phuket that much, but I was not there for long so will reserve judgement on that.

Kho Chang was good but limited too.

BKK has its high and low points. I could never live there it would do my head in.

I forget the names of most places I have been to but most have been pleasant. All in all I find Thailand a pleasant and calm place when away from the hustle and bustle of cities like BKK but also a frustrating place to live because of many limitations, some of those limitations usually brought about by my limited spoken Thai.

Least favorite -Chiang Mai, last time I went to Chiang Mai I swore I'd never go again, got hassled by touts from the moment I got off the train, couldn't walk 10 paces from the the Hotel without being hassled by touts.

Favorite Island - Koh Samet, beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere.

Hua Hin is OK, but the beach is nothing to write home about.

"Nakhonsawan is OK"

I go to Nakhon Sawan quite regularly out of necessity, but if I didn't have to, I would never go near the place.

For some reason it's always stiflingly hot.

The traffic is horrendous.

It's difficult to find anywhere to park the car.

Big C Nakhon Sawan, must be he busiest, noisiest, most irritating Big C in the whole country.

The riverside restaurants are ordinary.

Am I missing something?

Chiang Mai would have to be my least favorite. It's a little Bangkok without the transportation. Certain time of the year, the air quality is REALLY bad.

Prachuap Kirikhan is my favorite lay back and relax area. I really like where we live in Loei province but it lacks the sea.

For me Kanchanaburi is the best.

History, two rivers and a 'Fresh Water Beach' for kids. Waterfalls 3 good ones, clear air, mountains (hills really) and cheap to live there.

Only 2 hours from Bangers and Mash :D

Not so good place for me must be down South of Thailand, never been there, but do read the News :)

Yours truly,

Kan Win :D

P.S. Want to see Thailnd as I see it Click here :D

I stayed in Pattani for a memorable few days --- memorable because the provincial capital seemed to have the most unfriendly people I have ever met. No one smiles and remarks thrown at you in the streets are usually hostile. Tread very carefully if you have to go there.

Complete contrast next door in Songkhla which is one of my favourite places. The other is Nakhon Phanom. Ranong is also pleasant. It rains nine months a year there which makes everything so fresh, cool and green. Great for an escape from Bangkok.

Love Kanchanaburi, Rivers, mountains and waterfalls, cheaper cost of living than the more popular places and a laid back lifestyle, friendly locals. plenty to do and see.

Pattaya and Bangkok would be my least favorite places.

Chiang Mai seems to be popular but I can;t work out why, Kanchanaburi runs rings around it.

BANGKOK IS THE BEST!

Can't live with it can't live without it.

A detox on an island in Raynong province when it all gets too much.

Worst place Had Yai, the people have got an ominous look in their eyes.

I know it sound silly but i always get filled with this weird sense of foreboding whenever i have passed through there.

I've only been there a few times but i'm always happy to see the back of it.

I prefer the smaller provincial towns. My favorites are in the north; Phrae, Lampang and Phrao district in Chiangmai. I'm not a fan of coastal areas (I don't like the "salty sea air"). Necessity (work) dictates that I need to be near Bangkok for the time being though.

Hua Hn, back in the early 80s was quiet and uncommercialised.

Now all the old homes in the sea side of the town have become

girly bars.......

A real shame

Alas, things change. I liked Hua Hin about 8 years ago. My favourite in 1992 was Koh Pa Ngan. Now, I like Isarn, especially Loei, Chaiyapoom, Khon Kaen.

I don't lke Bangkok, Hat Yai, Udon Thani, Pattaya.

Favourite for relaxing any island except Samet....Grown tired of too many farang teachers......

The trick with Samui and Phuket is to hire a car when there so you can travel around fast and see all the off the song taow routes

Kanchanburi is jostling with number #1 spot for favourite but i think Koh chang swings it by a soi dogs whisker

Mountains, streams, waterfalls, nature or historic sites are good but beaches, beer and night time music beach bars are the best...

worst place ???

Rayong city and the road that runs along the beach to the Royal Rayong Hotel or something...

rough dangerous seas, rough dangerouns fishing community, rough dangerous areas, rough dangerous people.

did i mention rough and dangerous?

The only place and time in Thailand i have seen a machete attack/massive brawl/guns been waved about during a fight

You'll get as many different answers as there are people. It all depends on whether someone is single or married, whether they are working or retired, and just plain what they want out of life. I like all of Thailand, but some places just for a holiday and others where I could live much longer. I like clean beaches where I can go snorkling in clear water, but I never, ever sit on a beach for more than an hour, and only then if I'm with friends. I'd rather be doing something: swimming, kayaking, hiking, fishing or flirting with the girls in a friendly bar where I know the staff. I'm always wandering around with my camera looking for possible photo studies, and very often it's of people doing things. I could never live in some sleepy, Thai village even if I had the most gorgeous young woman in the world with me. It would quickly drive me crazy. I have to be doing something all the time or I get bored. I only stay in one place when I'm working on some project and right now that is working on a book with illustrations.

I found Phuket to be far over priced in comparison to other places in Thailand, but it is a lovely island with lots of nice places to see. Pattaya night life beats Patong beach any day of the week.

I have a time share in Jomptien, but the bars are better in Pattaya, so I usually go over the hill if I want a night on the town. The beaches in both places leave a lot to be desired, but it's a lovely day trip to Koh Larn and the beaches there rival any in Thailand.

For a beach resort area I think the Krabi area wins hands down. The port area leaves a bit to be desired, but Ao Nang beach is lovely. There is a "tiny" bit of night life, but it's better to bring someone with you than go hunting at night. A day trip to Hong Island is worth the trip and Rai Ley beach area is gorgeous. It's also cheaper and quicker to reach Koh Phi Phi from Krabi than it is from Phuket.

I think Hua Hin is just another version of Pattaya. It's worth going once.

Koh Samui although quite beautiful is far too commercialized now and mostly over priced for what you get.

Koh Chang and Koh Samet are lovely islands but not much to do and the water is not as clean as in the Andaman Sea.

The Similan Islands offer some of the best diving and snorkling in Thailand, but it's a long day trip from Kao Lak. I lost some very dear friends in Kao Lak during the Tsunami of 2004.

I find Bangkok too big and too difficult to get around, but if I was in business that is probably where I'd have to have an office. I much prefer Chiang Mai where it's easy to walk anywhere you need to go if traffic is too heavy.

Kanchanaburi is absolutely gorgeous with all the nearby mountain streams, waterfalls and lakes. But, the town itself I find just a bit small with not a lot to do. I do have some good friends there though and it's the province where I look after a Thai family, so I make my annual visits.

Khanchanaburi for me as well and especially Erewhon waterfalls. Can spend all day there swimming and eating.

ChaAm - dirty old laid back town but love it for the sea and close enough to Hua Hin for services.

I agree with Garry 9999 I love Koh Samet

I still like Chiang Mai ,although hate the Night Bazaar,I still like Wat Umomg.

I still like Chiang Rai Province best

I have always been a Ko Samet lover too. The Islands are always a nice place to go,people seem to be a lot more relaxed and easier to speak to.
