Work Permit With Multi-entry Non-b

Featured Replies

Hi, just got my first work permit today, so all this is a bit new to me. I got a 1 year multi-entry non-b visa back in the UK (much to the company's surprise - good old Hull). Question is, as I have a multi entry visa (valid until May 2010) do I need a re-entry permit?

My guess, and the company's, is no, but I will need to get one in 2010 when my visa expires and we renew the work permit. I will be travelling fairly regularly so this is quite important, but hopefully will not have to bother with 90 day reporting.

Thanks in advance, QED.

As long as you are doing 90 days or less per entry you do not make address reports. You do not want a re-entry permit with a multi entry visa as you will get a new 90 days entry with the visa - you would get less with a re-entry permit.

Before your last entry expires you want to extend your stay for a year at a time and then you will need re-entry permits.

If you only have a multiple entry visa you don't need a re-entry permit. Or make 90 day reports because you have to leave every 90 days.

If you had an extension of stay from immigration you would need a re-entry permit and make 90 day reports.

Thanks guys, that's pretty much what I thought. I've been here on multi-entry visas for the last 3 years (non-o) but wasn't sure if the WP complicated things. I will be leaving every 90 days easily, so no worries there.

Thanks again.

hold on, am I missing something?

If you have a proper work permit, extended for the rest of the year, then if you leave thailand without a re-entry permit your work permit expires and your extension of stay expires too?

Maybe I'm confused.

If the OP has entered Thailand on a non-immigrant B, he would have had is stay extended for the rest of the year at the end of the third month of his stay. That extension expires without a re-entry permit?

But, as I said, I'm probably confused!!

He has a multiple entry visa not an extension so he does not need a re-entry permit.

Purely theoretical question as I am sure I will be with the company for more than a year, but if I was to resign/ get fired now I am assuming it would have no impact on my visa as it was not issued in connection with this particular job (I am aware of the issues if you are on an extension). I've had several debates about this recently and nobody believes me.

Off on my first trip next week with no re-entry permit, really hope there are no misunderstandings with immigration.

You got it right. With a multiple non-B and not being on an extension of stay losing your job has no impact on your right to stay.

With a multiple enty non-B you will get a new permission to stay for 90 days every time you enter Thailand, as long as your visa is valid.
