I guess I am in the right section here, so I'm starting this forum on an unusual hobby I have of collecting vehicle license plates, a hobby I have had in Australia for about 15 years. And, NO, there is nothing dodgy about this, I don't do it so I can have a get away car fitted with false plates the next time I do a ram raid on the local bank !!!!

I belong to a club in Oz (Number Plate Collectors Club) & was for a short time in the American club, ALPCA.

I only collect the genuine ones with the seal and, on the latest issues, with the 9 digit manufacturers serial number in the lower left corner.

I have had mostly the common ones, Ute, or, Pick-up as they say here, van, car and m/c, truck and bus. Many of these I send around the world to other collectors, but I am still missing some of the more rare plates, including Hotel Car/Limo, (green/white, & white/green depending on year of issue) Farm, (black/orange) Commercial Tuk Tuk, (red/white and seemingly very rare) small open mini bus (blue/yellow) and taxi, (black/yellow) As I have never lived in Bkk, and in the past lived up country, but now am just 80 k's out of Bkk, I have only been able to get a couple of the old single letter/4 numbers variety, but no current ones. So now it's easier for me to come down to the Big Smoke.

So I am writing this to see if maybe by some remote chance there is another collector in the forum who may also be a collector, or perhaps knows a collector, or someone knows of wrecking yards, repair shops or have seen plates for sale, BUT, not the fake made up plates that are done for people who have lost a plate and don't want to bother the Transport Dept and go through the hassle of reporting a lost plate and waiting weeks for a new one.

Yes, by now you might be thinking what a wierd hobby, and still some of my mates in Oz still think I'm crazy having this hobby, but I love it.

I have also collected plates from Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar and would also like to get some Vietnamese. but have not been there yet.

Anyway, if anyone wants to comment, has ideas, contacts, etc, I look forward to seeing them here.. :)

You might be interested in this web site about Thai plates:

www.driving.information.in.th/license-plates

Thanks very much for the info Spaniel, I have seen this web site before, it is part of an ALPCA/EURO member's website. I have searched the net for years about Thai plates, sadly the Thai Transport Dept. has limited English on their site, (in the plate section) and little accurate info on the plates they issue. I've even had a Thai friend look on the Thai site, but again info is not very much, or as clear as it should be. :)

But I'm always on the lookout !!!

Thanks for the offer, Anothertorres, I actually have 1 in my collection in Oz, but if you come across any Asian plates, I would be very interested.
