Featured Replies

or are crossword puzzles not possible in Thai ?

My Thai wife does them.

Not very 'cryptic' but she does 'em !!

3 letter answers. Silly things really.

Too many consonants for 't' or 'k' or 's'

I'm guessing you mean in Thai, have to say never seen one. Have to inquire about that with the hubby!

Crossword puzzles, whistling and map reading are alien to Thai people.

I often see my TG dad doing much more difficult ones. He's quite good at them, also. I've also seen his friends working them too from time to time and didn't ever think that it was a rare sight?? :o

Ever see a Thai TV game show where you don't hear "Nung, Song, SaaaaaaMM!!?

Or A Thai soap opera where you don't hear someone utter "Oi! Oi! Oi!"

Or commentary on a football game where you don't hear "Oh Haaaaww! Mai Khow Pratuu!" when a player misses scoring.

Or an Issan love ballad and not hear the word "khittueng"

Or a Thai tv food advert and not hear the word "Aroi" (or in Japan..."Oishii")

:o

But, strangely, picking their nose in public is quite common :o

my wife loves to wistle.... and map reading too.

but while doing crosswords - actually I neve seen anyone such, of any nationality ! it seems like not fair to Thais - common, who is interested in wistling while doing crosswords?

No but I've seen a Farang have a cross word with a puzzled Thai :o

hubby does them in English to help learn. He quite enjoys them & those ones where you have to find the words in a grid of letters. :o

AKA - word searches

My wife does them all the time - esp the wordsearch ones - helps her no end with her English.

They do have Thai crosswords.....usually just working off the root letter and some vowels ....the high and low vowels and the tonal marks arent used. Have even tried one my self.....in Pattaya the newspaper stand at the top of Soi Diamond sells them.

The real Isarn ones say, 'Kit hot' Isarnese for miss something, usually their home, whilst working in Bangkok, also used a lot are 'thoraman'(torture), and 'gin lao khao'(drink rice whisky), and 'kee mao' (drunkard).

I can't blame people for not liking/doing xwords. If you asked me for a three letter word beginning with C, to describe a motor vehicle.I would give you the old "staring at a another universe' type of look. :o
