OK, I am terrible at hi tech things, so I have no clue who this will show up as a new topic. Anyway, attached s a photo that my hi tech maid took on her cell phone. The firemen were called to the house and they didn't harm it and took it away to be placed in someone else's house. They called it a Green Snake, which is not a shock given it is a green snake. The snake was over 6 feet long and they said was not dangerous.

Does anyone else know the type of snake this is, other than a green snake?

Difficult to tell from that photo!

Probably a Green Tree Racer, though they usually grow to 120cm. You sure it was 6 ft? We get quite a few at our house here in Chiang Mai. My maid is scared to death and thinks I'm such a hero when I stroll up to them and gently shoo them away!

Quite harmless. Beautiful actually.

On its size, no I am not sure of the 6 feet. I saw it from about 20 meters a few months ago and it looked several feet, but it was moving in one direction and I was moving in the other. The maids so it yesterday, and just said it was big. Since it was harmless, a Green Tree Racer may well have been it.

Why would it move up to our second floor balcony? Hopefully, it was looking for food and not being chased by something even worse.

"Why would it move up to our second floor balcony?"

Do you live in a tree house? :)

Here's a photo of what I think it was.

A three story house, surrounded by trees. Yesterday, another one visited us and unfortunately, workers saw it and killed it. This morning, another one was spotted by one of our maids who ran into the house to tell my wife and when she returned, we couldn't find it. We again called Bangkok Fire and Rescue who came out within 5 minutes to look for the snake, but couldn't find it either (it will be back).

Incidentally, on both times we have called Bangkok Fire and Rescue we have tried to tip them THB 200 and they turned it down saying they are paid by the city and are proud to do their jobs. What a breath of fresh air coming from city workers.

On the photo, probably you are right. Both Fire and Rescue who got the big one on Thursday and the workers who killed the one yesterday said the snakes weren't dangerous. We probably have a big family of them and just want them to move out of our compound to someone else. Perhaps we can get them to move to Chiang Mai.

You sure that having Fire and Rescue at your place a couple of times a week over non dangerous snakes isn't a bit over the top??

With small kids in the compound I can assure you the very next time we see a snake in the yard, Fire and Rescue will be back and I don't have one bit of a problem calling them.
