Today i got a yellow tabien baan with my name in ( piece of cake no hassle done in just over an hour) Im married and here on Non O visa no work permit I want to get a Thai driving licence the 1 year one, all posts say you need a letter from your embassy to prove your address here? If I have a Yellow tabien baan do i still need the embassy letter or not when applying for the licence a s surely this proves my address?. I know the other things I need to take but am not clear on whether the Yellow book will negate the need for this Embassy letter. Wife reckons it will and we should just go down to the driving licence office and try. They are unavailable on the phone.

I was told I needed a letter from immigration. As soon as I mentioned the yellow Tabien baan, all the problems went away and it was a quick smooth process. YMMV, of course, but that's my experience.

Thanks for the replies it made sense to me but then again "TiT" and in the applying for a 1 year licence section above etc it DOES NOT mention that if you have this then the letter is uneccesary.

I got the Thai DL in 20 minutes with a yellow book, copy of passport/visa, copy of UK DL, reaction and colour blindness test; no embassy or immigration letter required at the Udon LTO. Maybe good to check with your local LTO (Uranus?), just in case they have a pedantic type who says otherwise or a lady clerk having a bad hair day. Good luck!

45 minutes after I entered the building today at 9.45 am i got my 1 year licence with no letter from the embassy just my yellow TB book so you dont need the letter if you have a Tabien baan (yellow) Perhaps Mods wopuld like to add this onto the list of things needed when applying to save many like myself the 2000+ baht the UK embassy would have charged for a residency letter.
