I read this in the new rules for a ret visa since Dec 2008. It means a visit to Bangkok, embassy and Chaeng Wattana. Last year I did not even visit the embassy, just did it by post and bankpayment.

Anyone about this rule ?

If using the income route you have to get a new letter from the Embassy every year. It does not have to be verified by MFA as I understand it.

Today I got this paper at the Imm Office; application for ret visa extension as of the 3 rd Dec 2008.

4. In case of having monthly income. ...must provide evidence of ... Must include a letter of certification issued by...embassy. Embassy/consulair stamp need to be verified by Thai Ministry...Foreign Affairs Consulair Dept Chaeng Wattana.

O, this is also new.

I am guessing that you are applying at Nongkai. They do like to have their own rules that are different to the official rules.

I have just looked at a local forum and there is no need for the MFA Verification at Nongkai. I think this was dispenced with quite a while ago. They have probably given you out of date information.
