I keep hoping that traditionally Democratic Farang's will be more discerning when faced with that unending barrage of anti-democracy rhetoric from their Thai English media. That extraordinary amount of head bobbing he did (which is, as you say, nothing more than feigned comprehension) is usually only observed in those bobble-headed toy dogs seen mounted in cars. Shinawatra Haboonpat, a leading UDD member, revealed that the birthday celebration will be held at a private venue in downtown Bangkok from morning until late evening and Mr. Thaksin will make a phone call addressing to his supporters at the evening party. UDD key leader Natthawut Saikua said Thaksin supporters in At Samat district of the northeastern province of Roi Et will gather to recall the former premier's successful performances during his administration. Regarding the Red Shirts' campaign to gather one million signatures to ask for a royal pardon for ex-premier Thaksin to allow him to return from his self-imposed exile, Mr. Natthawut said that a number of names have been already collected but the group is opening the process for more petition signatories from its members in other provinces. Mr. Natthawut said that the names collected by regional leaders will be sent to the UDD office on July 31 before submitting the petition to His Majesty the King on August 1. Meanwhile, key UDD leader Veera Musikapong revealed that the Red Shirts’ famous political talk show 'Truth Today', which has been off air since the Red Shirt's D-Station was blocked by the government following last April’s political chaos, will be on air again via the new TV channel called 'People Channel' from July 15. At the time of the iron curtain, many countries behind the iron curtain did have media outlets with names like that! Is the color red of these groups supposed to stand for the same, outdated ideology or are the "powers to be" simply hiding their real agenda behind a "socialist" ideology to make their quest more palatable to rural poor and for the "working class hero's" - like the cabbies in the capitol and elsewhere? ...some of the slogans ... make my hair stand up... all too familiar!
