Hi i am just enquiring incase anyone has any idea on the best way to get a thai passport for my son. I will give a quick brief below.

I an English

Wife has spouse visa not finished 2 years yet

Son was born in England has british passport and birth cert

Wife has gone don't know where she is not going into to much detail but don't really care could find her if i had to.

Left son with me i guess happens a lot with thais

I am thinking about going to live in Thailand and would like to get thai passport for my son.

Would this mean if he got a thai passport i could get some type of visa as i am his father so i don't need to do the monthly visa runs etc? (main reason for getting passport but my son will also then have both for his future)

I have checked the thai embassy website and called them but didn't really think they understood what i was asking as its a bit confusing it says (i have put in bold and underlined the questions i was asking them about).

I am confused as it says both parents need to sign the consent form but also says if you are divorced seperated letter confirming custody.

Another question would be as i am not thai and dont have id card or registered at a thai house would i even be able to get a thai passport for him.

I dont have custody in writing yet but as my wifes visa is not settlement yet but she wants to stay in UK i have a good barganing chip if needed.

I want to try and get the passport without her knowing if possible as you never know she may try stopping me if she can at the end of the day she just vanished and has made no attempt to see her son whatsover so i feel if i go to Thailand our son will at no loos. I would always leave contact details with my mum so she can contact us and visit our son when ever she wanted her sister lives in England so i would proberly tell her before we left and also give her our detais once we have settled in.

Thanks for reading and for any help anyone can be.

Your child is Thai.

Having said that, you've highlighted the 2 difficult issues on the Embassy's information. You require written confirmation that you have custody, and your wife's consent in person will be required for the passport application.

If you are thinking of sponsoring your wife's application for ILR even though your marriage has broken down, you could be committing an offence, so think very carefully before you commit yourself to this.

In short, you require your wife's cooperation to secure a Thai passport for your son. Perhaps you can persuade her that she's doing the right thing for his future by signing over custody to you, and helping him to get a Thai passport, which is part of his birthright.
