Pc Tools Anti-virus Free Edition

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience with Symantec's free anti-virus package PC Tools? I am not a fan (and currently don't use) any Symantec products because their main security suite products, when I have used them in the past (many years ago), slowed down my system too much and needled their way deep into the internals of my system. Also, it was very hard to uninstall any of their software as it seemed it always wanted to leave traces of itself hidden in little nooks and crannies of my computer.

Just curious how PC Tools might compare to the other free anti-virus packages like AVG, Avast, Avira.

I tried almost all.....i totally agree with you that Norton and others are really bad. We live in a world where copies are being used for almost all programs. Imagine you'd have a Avg copy good for nine years, with all futures? Checking web pages, a.s.o. Since the guy who wrote that is using that program, he never had a problem with troyans or other homemade stuff. Try to find it.......good luck.

Avast!! Used it since it was made available. Sometimes too good -- reporting false alarms

BTW nice picture :)

Avast is about the best free one.

And to get rid of those annoying programs try this one.

excellent recommendation

Revo uninstaller gets my utter endorsement.

That program is doing the perfect uninstall which necessary

if you want switch your antivirus or firewall software.

I've had a bit of bad luck lately - had a few flash drive bugs that go undetected by Avira but picked up by McCafee. Very annoying.

Try Linux - any distro - virus free 24/7

PS If ya must slum it, AVG 8.5 Free

That's why there are actually companies that produce anti virus for linux right ?

There is no such things as a virus free OS, even though admitely Linux is too small for the criminals to write exploits for.

Microsoft has just released a beta of their MSE, which looks very promising, alltough the final release date will probably be around end of october.

Case closed
