On Line Visa Application

Featured Replies

I have had an e-mail from the VFS that says they wont accept the VAF4A form you have to fill in the online application and then have an appointment to hand the papers in. As my stepson does not have a passport yet this has thrown a real spanner in the works. How can I make an appointment if he doesn't have a passport? When he has a passport we only have a one week window to hand the papers in.

You have always had to put his passport details down on the application, even before it changed from the VAF4A form to on line applications, nothing's changed in this respect. First you need to take him to a Thai passport office to get his passport, then fill in the online application, when you'll also be able to book the appointment for the VFS center to hand in all the paperwork and have his biometrics done.

Yes I know we have to put his passport details on his application form but that could have been done as the last thing. We could have filled everything else in in advance.

How long does it take from filling the online application in and getting an appointment to hand it in? When it comes to children I'm sure I'm not alone in being on a tight time budget when we come over. What is the point of the VAF4A form if you can't use it?

This is the first I've heard of only online applications being accepted. I have many flights booked around the country to bring the boy back and forth to Bangkok now I suppose I'll have to throw some of them away.

I have just had the below reply to my e-mail. It seems, from what I can understand, we don't need an appointment to hand in the settlement application as long as we are prepared to queue like we have in the past.

Please kindly be informed, effective 03 April 2009, applicants applying for settlement and must complete an online visa application form at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk and schedule an appointment before visiting to the UK visa application center to submit the visa application.

Our e-calendar will open for your booking month by month which means you can schedule for the date and time one month ahead before coming to submit your application so you should check back regularly to see if any appointments have become available.

Remark: if the desired date and time, you are willing to book become unavailable or too late to submit, you may choose a walk-in approach and submit your visa application at your earliest convenience, but you will be required to wait in the normal queue.

Quite; see my reply in your other thread.

BTW, it is very confusing (and annoying!) when someone starts two threads on the same subject. Please stick to one.
