Hello

I had a baby about 2 weeks ago in my home. I now need to get a birth certificate for my son. I would like some recommendations for a good Dr. for my son. I live in Nonthaburi distric of Bangkok.

Thanks Peregrine8

You may need to inform the chief of the village and then go to the local government office to register the baby's birth. This visit to the local government is necessary within 15 days! You can also call "1111" on your mobile or any phone and can ask questions about this issue. This number is for the government information center. They speak English, too.

You didn't mention, however, if you were Thai or other nationality. If you are seeking birth cert for both Thai and foreign national together, be sure to set up an appointment at your foreing consul or embassy.

I am by no means an expert, but our baby was born last week in a Thai hospital. They took care of the Thai birth cert and we made an appt. with US Embassy for registering her for passport and social security number.

Hope this helps some!

uh oh.. It has been over 15 days since I gave birth. I am a U.S. citizen and to register him with our embassy I have to go to a Pediatrician and get a check over and paper work filled out with his statistics. I never even thought about the local Thai government. I will call tomorrow morning. Thanks so much for the info. Do u know if there are any fines or anything else do to me not giving them notice within 15days of birth??

Peregrine8

I am not aware of any fines or circumstances that might make this difficult. But that doesn't mean there won't be.

Assuming you had witnesses, doula or doctor doing the delivery, you might consider contacting them and preparing them for a 'chance' that they may have to be signed witnesses on any forms. Again, call the "1111" number and ask questions.

Also, you can go online at US EMBASSY REGISTRATION FOR CITIZEN BORN IN THAILAND and make an appointment. Be sure you bring as many documents as possible. Never can have too many. Also, don't forget photos of baby for passport and you can also get baby a social security number at the same time.

Good luck!!

Congratulations to your successful homebirth! I sent you a PM with contact details of a midwife who might be able to offer advice about getting the birth certificate because she had her twins at home in Bangkok.

It turns out the 15 day time limit os only for Thai citizens. For foreigners you need parents passports, marriage certificate, lease agreement of rental where baby was born, and a letter from a doctor saying that I was pregnant recently. We got out Thai birth certificate today. It did not take very long at all and they really nice and helpful.

Thanks Peregrine8
