If you go with a friend to handle the docs, they will probably allow you to sign on the groundfloor.

As far as I can tell they have stopped doing anything at Patong Immigration. Anytime I go by there they are closed and if I ask someone in one of the adjoining offices they say it is closed and go to Phuket town
